This morning I caught three hens attacking a 1-month-old kitten. The kitten seemed okay physically, just traumatized.

This us the first one in five years of owning chickens. I've read that the gen can be treated, but I have no idea which one laid it. None of them are acting unusual. I keep their feed and water clean and add vitamin supplements to their water.
We've had chickens for about 5 years now and have always let them free range. We live on 2.5 acres with fields on three sides and several houses across the road (two of which also have chickens). We have only lost two or three to predation out of 20 chickens, so I think we're doing pretty good...
Our girls are free range sunrise to sunset on 2.5 acres with fields on three sides. I have bird feeders and the girls eat anything that the yard birds spill onto the ground. I will occasionally toss them some dried mealworms as well as seedless grapes (their favorite!) and kitchen scraps. I love...
