Boss Hen has hit the absolute bottom of the pecking order…

I’ve had my Delaware hen since the beginning of my chicken adventure last year. She’s always been my boss girl, top of the pecking order, and keeps everyone in line. Lately she has been pushed to the absolute bottom of the pecking order. Like, even the 2 month old ducklings chase her off, and...

    What Is She?

No, she still hasn’t laid any as of yet. I’m not sure of her age, so I don’t know if she’s started laying yet. All my other girls lay brown though, so if there’s a new color at any point, it would have to be her.

    What Is She?

So about a month ago, I came home from work to find one single chicken in my yard. None of my neighbors have chickens, and no one ever came looking for her. My husband and I had discussed getting chickens, and this just kind of jump started our plans for that lol. We kept her alone for a while...

Plymouth Barred Rock Rooster's comb is bleeding (Not an emergency)

I took this one yesterday. But I don't think it was bleeding then. I'd go get a picture now, but it's already dark out, and the chickens are already asleep.

    November - Epilepsy Awareness Month

I'm glad he doesn't have seizures often. He is very cute, and I'm sure he would have made the perfect guide dog

Gonna try free ranging today (a little nervous)

As we live in an area where large dogs often roam free, I always supervise my girls when they are out. I usually will let them out while I fill their feeder, clean the coop, rake up leaves and grass to add to the run, and clean their water. It usually takes me around an hour to do all of the...

What treat did your chickies get today?

Today, they got a TON of dry leaves. I'm trying to really get some thick bedding down in the run before it gets really cold. And I strung up some Bell Pepper, and Cucumber so they had to jump to get it. They had fun with that!

Plymouth Barred Rock Rooster's comb is bleeding (Not an emergency)

This afternoon when I went outside, I picked up my rooster to cuddle him for a minute. I noticed that his comb seemed to be wet, and I touched it, only to find that it was blood! There are no visible cuts, scratches, etc. The blood just seems to be coming straight out of his comb. Any ideas as...

    The Duck Thread

I work at a Miniature Horse farm, that also raises ducks. Talk about a ton of ducks! One mother with her 14 adult babies (6 female, 8 male), 14 adult orphans(9 females, 5 males), 2 other females, and 7 adult males. And when you call them to be fed, they come running, waddling, and FLYING out of...

    Horses!!!!!!!!

Hahaha! That's why I find Moe so amazing, though. He was beaten, abused, and terrified when we found him. Yet even when he was spooking at something, he always made sure to never step on me, push me, etc. It's just a shame that a horse with such a good heart had to go through what he did.

    Horses!!!!!!!!

He is that! Haha! Now that he is getting better, I take him out on his lead line into the dressage arena and do walk, trot, halt, and back up work with him. And about every 5 steps we take, he arches his neck just right so that he can seach my pockets while we walk
