Hey there! I need some advice. I have three hens and one of them has done the whole "taking on the rooster" role. She has become extremely aggressive and attacks me whenever I get near her. She launched herself at my head one time and nearly took my eye out - I don't go near the chickens now...
Yeah they've been off the brooder lamp for 2 weeks already...it is so warm down here generally it was at a point where the lamp was keeping them warmer than they were meant to be!
Thanks for the advice...I'll see if I'm brave enough to do it, LOL!
SOOOO... Haven't been on awhile 'cause I spend all my time staring at Scarlett, Trixie, and Miss Penny Loo-Hoo However I am wondering about outdoor adjustment. The girls have been outside during the day for about a week now (in S. Texas the days have been anywhere from 70-80 degrees). I've...
Aaah! This is interesting. I just moved my two week old chicks into the "suite quarters" as opposed to their little rabbit cage. But the rabbit cage (while small) had a "ramp door" and I had urged them up and down the ramp until they were doing it themselves. Now the new suite (dog crate)...

hahahahaha thanks for that link! Those were hysterical...now I think I will know stink eye when it happens...don't think I've gotten it from my girls yet
OK, that's what I thought but it seemed to be roo-specific based on the conversation so I thought it was something I might not know about, some sort of disease. I kept looking and looking at your chicken think, "She/He LOOKS ok....what's wrong???"
<chuckle> I guess it would except for the part I mentioned about already having cleaned out the crates
Nah, that actually is a good idea for next time...don't know why I didn't think of using vinegar before, I have tons of it. Isn't it sad that we automatically go for the easy spray "magic"...
My "wee" babies are already outgrowing the initially smallish rabbit cage I had for them so it is time to upgrade their suites I have a large old dogcrate that I am cleaning up to house them. But I have a question -- I just got threw cleaning it and am using a "green" type of cleaning but...
Oh they aren't AVOIDING it per se, they just obviously like the cooler end.
It is a little difficult right now 'cause our temps in S. Texas are getting a bit temperamental -- some days it is still in the high 90's but this weekend is in the 70's (and down in the 50's at night) so I'm trying to...
Ha! This is interesting 'cause I just posted on this exact same scenario. My chickes are in their second week and do NOT want the hot side of the brooder, they "chill out" in the cool end, which is 80 or possibly even less. But they are obviously happy and playful.
