Their crest and waddles are quite red (except parts by their ears are still pale) and the weather here has been nice. There has been less daylight though. Could it be nutrition or are they just not ready yet?
I have been seeing what I believe to be an abnormal amount of red droppings from one of my 12 week old pullets droppings (I believe I know which pullet is producing them... not sure) I've only had them for a little while (4 days) and I first noticed it the second night I went to check their...
I live in northern AL :) Also should I still be on the look out for coccidiosis if they DON'T have any other symptoms of being lethargic, not eating or drinking, and have been on medicated chick feed? Thank you again
Very true! We do indeed plan to get more :) at the moment we just have the seller at the time only had two hens. Do you know where I can order Valbazen online or find it? Thank you very much :)
I have just bought two 11 week old Orpington pullets and they are my first chickens. I check their poop everyday which is easy because there are two of them. This night though they slept pretty near each other and I couldn't decide who's poo was who's. They occasionally have red in their poo (I...
He/She actually looks more like a hen to me. Her crest isn't large for 5 months and her saddle feathers are actually very round. I don't see any sickle feathers either. Hope I could help. Wait for more replies and see what others have to say.
Welcome! I'm pretty new as well. It definitely looks like a male with such a red comb and wattles. It looks sorta like a black australorp. I'm not 100% sure on the breed but I'm pretty sure on the gender :)
I am so so sorry to hear that. It is so easy to get attached to chickens (especially when you raise them from the begging). We had to teach my little sis that it is never 100%on the gender until the crow or lay. I'm glad you get to rescue hens tough :) rescuing is the best and you know 100% they...
Thank you I appreciate it! I just got them 2 days ago and I'm so attached and constantly worrying about something happening to them or them being a roo... worrying just takes the fun out of having them while you have them though :) I'm going to continue my research as a new chicken owner :)...
my lavender Orpingtons so far look like pullets. They are 11 weeks and have small pale crest and no wattles. I went out to refill their water, I look up, and one of them has their neck stretched and beak open... but absolutely no noise came out!! I was terrified. I cannot have a roo (I love...
Heh heh sorry I am being paranoid :S it honestly was more of a stretch and yawn than anything... just caught me off guard haha. Here are some pics-
I actually heard it's common for that "silent crowning" behavior in chickens. Like its a stretching maneuver. Also something was mentioned...
While I was attempting to get a picture one of them stretched it neck and opened its mouth O-O did it attempt to crow? O-O no noise came out... bunt now I'm suspicious... could have just been yawning?
