I rec'd two new young (this year, about 5 mo old) birds from my neighbor after Brer Bear ate one of my three. Neither have started laying. I was looking through the site, trying to determine the breed of the left one and came across the "roo discussion." Since my neighbor has already gotten two roos from this last batch of 25 she got at Murdoch's (which doesn't guarantee sex), I got to worrying.
Is there a chance it's a roo?
Further, do you think Jersey Giant might be the breed of that left bird? She/He has black legs and yellow bottoms on the feet and is very greenish iridescent in the sun and is a little larger than the assumed Black Star on the right (who also has black legs and yellow bottomed feet). The right bird is on a spot higher on the hill so appears the same size, but she's not.
Thanks all you guys!!!!!
This same bear AGAIN tore down my neighbor's huge tuff shed door in spite of the complicated way he had to turn the door handle after he ripped off the 2x4s on the front of the coop. Now she's electrified. I'm using bear boards at night (my friend from Alaska helped me make them) and a radio playing in the daytime since the bear came over my fence, ate a hen, and left when we returned from the dog walk at about 8pm. Thank goodness we interrupted him, as I think he may have been eyeing the other two by the panicked way they were squawking when they saw us coming.
