Can anyone tell me what color the "dark brown" in the center is? Got a few eggs from a local guy, hatched them out, and got two dark brown.

@mamanak and @aart Great! We had the bucket crack in the bottom, so that was replaced and the whole unit is still functional! Also build a second one out of a coffee container and orange juice bottle for our quail this year (had to downsize due to predators). Ill try to get a picture of it...

I think for that effort I'll just make the cardboard boxes early. Definitely a good idea, but as the rolls are already "seasoned", I'd rather start with something a little cleaner.

If your strapped for cash for a couple days, can you just set up the brooder in the bathroom and keep the door closed so the cat can't get in? Obviously not a great long-term suggestion, but we all understand being budget mindful, especially these days. Ryn.

Well I got these from a local (~hour away) guy from the internet, so he definitely could have given me a few old ones, but I agree, it's more likely that something cause a few to quit right off the bat.
