My simple laundry sink fodder growing setup.

A great science question I'd like to know is: does it matter how long to soak the seeds! 12 hours or 24 hours? Or, does watering 3x or 2x or just once per day affect growth? Lots of thoughts but little scientific investigation.

    Deep litter method

How should the moisture level be? I've got good ventilation but it is SO DUSTY in my coop. I'm tempted to spray water in there since the bedding (pine shavings) is so much powder. Does anyone do that?

    Constructed a compost sifter/tumbler/sieve/trommel w video

Now that the compost is coming along, I built a compost tumbler/sieve/trommel out of two bike rims, some casters, hardware cloth, and plenty of zip ties. It sifts right into the wheelbarrow Check out the video here: Scott

    Bran?

So I'm shutting down my mealworms operation but will be left with lots of bran. Is this something I can feed my chickens with? That is without baking them into muffins ;)

I'd suspect different grains/seeds will yield different ratios.

When is it a molt? When is it something else? When to worry?

She's Not getting pecked. I'm not sure how to 'check' for mites, I'll google it, but might as well pick up some meds for it just in case. Will I need to toss eggs when treating for mites?

how to cull without a cone?

'Broomstick method' is my own preference, but it's what you can imagine yourself being most at ease with. My fear is only doing half a job with a hatchet.

Punch holes in my fodder system....

Barley is the quickest and wheat/oats are very slow by comparison. How long does it take for the water to drain?

Do I still need a heat lamp? Please help solve our family argument!!!

I'll only use a 60watt bulb for light and we see -20 to -30 temperatures during our Canadian winters.

My 8 birds devour the sqft that I make for them in less than ten minutes. I think that in the summer I'm going to go hog wild and basically reseed their whole run. They'll wake up one morning and the barren run will be all green again. ;)
