The one thing I didnt message is that I personally do not buy from hatcheries. since I raise them for show and I try to build a true breed.
However we did buy our Rohde Island reds from a hatchery. They were very poor quality. the red was not the right red color. the toes were crooked. They...
I now some birds are more likely to get mareck's. I have heard that Sebrights and silkies are much worse and can get it quite a bit. I believe they can get it as chick and you wont see it till later on in life. but once they are older then 6 or so months then they have probably passed the stage...
I just posted a similar topic to this on marecks.
In my sebright manual it say you can raise a turkey with the chicks you hatch. or you can brood the chicks on turkey manure after they are 1 day old. this gives them the same immunity as the vaccine.
Im still struggling with what to do because...
My family raises a variety of chickens. We have been thinking about gettin a vaccine for marecks.
It seems to be a little on the expensive side just for the 20-30 chicks we hatch a week. So we started to look for other options.
I was reading through my sebright manual and it said that some...
I went to a small poultry show the other day. I brought a young sebright pullet to the show and the judge told me
that my sebright was starting to get square lacing at the end of each feather. Does any one now how I can breed
this out? I think alot of my breeding stock may be like this. So im...

I would only sometimes hatch 4 chicks in a week.
I understand the vaccine come in an ice form?

Hello my families chicken coop has been having severe northern fowl mites latly. we have gave them ivimectin and also sprayed them with a spray for mites and lice. If we find one that has them we wash them and it normally takes care of all the mites.
We have started to get them very bad now...

what kind of chicken is that? i had the same kind of chick hatch from a sebright egg one time because they were in a growout pen with another kind. i collected the eggs for incubation a little early and hatched what appears to be the same as yours.
just clip below the quick (live part). if it bleeds use all purpose flour or blood stop to stop the bleeding and will be fine in a few min. Mine bleed sometime but theyve all managed to stay healthy. just dont cut to far up the nail. i use normal nail clippers.
ok so i cant keep any of the roosters because they only appear silver and it will screw up my breedline? Makes sense.
so all of these hens will be silvers that i could breed with again with a silver rooster and those male offspring would be true silvers right?
Sounds good i am excited to try...
Ive been told sebrights are hard to breed because they get merecks desease more easily then other chickens. i did actually have merecks this year but only in my sebrights. theres a vaccination wich i am goin to use this year to help me.
they also are not easy to breed with because of there size...
