One of our cockerels is wheezing, and his crop is hard. We're thinking he's probably swallowed something that's obstructing his airway. He occasionally looks like he's going to throw something up. He seems to have a reduced appetite as well, and he keeps scratching his face with his foot as if...
My mum lowered the incubator's humidity to 48-55% (hydrometer and incubator have different readings) for a good few hours while I was asleep for some stupid reason. Early onset dementia, I swear to god.
How is this going to affect the eggs?
Edit: and apparently she threw away two eggs that were...
my mother's bought a brooder, but the temperature is way too low (28-30°c). we were going to put the chicks under our broody hen (silkie) during the night when they'd all hatched.
I've already talked to her about it and she's told me that she won't open the incubator anymore, but she is prone...
just an update, one of the chicks suddenly hatched today, 4 have pipped
i wasn't there but my mum said one of the eggs had blood oozing out of it, but the rest are fine. one of them is pretty close to hatching, too. though, my mum has been constantly opening the incubator to hold the chick -.-
My mum wants to try and put a hole in one of the eggs. I'd assume that's ill-advised? We have experience with hatching eggs, but my mother really isn't the best decision maker.
We have 9 eggs on lockdown and they haven't even chirped; none of the eggs have moved or started pipping.
Admittedly, my mum has been doing all sorts of things (opening the incubator, taking the eggs, moving them, etc) and I'm pretty sure her fiddling's played a part in the chicks not hatching...
