    Thank you for your reply! They seem to be staying up on the roost all day today (just got them yesterday). I think they're afraid to come down because the other hens are a little mean to them. I'm assuming this is normal and will pass in a few days?

    Just added what I was told were roundhead Hatch hens to my flock. Two of them. They're pullets and seem to be getting along okay with our other girls. Problem is I'm not 100% on the breed, and I can't seem to find ANY information on them online other than them being show birds or people fighting...

    Yep it's the open wooden ones. I didn't see any other kind when there. We piled a good bit of hay in there but she's pretty good at rearranging her box haha! She scratches it right down to the wood!

    We're using hay right now. We bought the nesting boxes from tractor supply, they're pretty deep.

    We actually got a BIG egg this morning!! It cracked though :( she pushes all of the hay out of the way and lays her egg on the bottom of the nesting box which is all wood. Should we line the bottom with a small towel or something so that they don't break when laid?
