    Guess my packing peanuts

We Still have no idea what the packing peanuts are that we got from Ideal back in Feb. They did look a lot like the chicks you posted. Now at about 3 & 1/2 months old, they seem to be more leg than meat, and ugly. Not one of them has much of a tail developing. We're thinking Ideal is allowing...

    Do my chicks look alright?

We dip their beaks in the water once, just to be sure they know theres water there for them at their new home. It's hard to tell how deep the water is. Like the above poster Panth wrote, the water should be shallow.

    How do I Breed Broodiness?

We have a Cochin banty roo and he's able to get all the ladies! lol Right now we have 1 pure Cochin banty chick, and 3 CA White/Cochin banty crossed chicks. Along with 15 eggs in the incubator from our 2 standard sized EEs, 1 EE banty, and 1 BR .. all are appearing to be developing.

    Can ducks and geese crossbreed???

I know this is an old thread, but came across the question of this topic while searching, because I have the same question. We have a grey Saddle Back which appears to be a female because she totally allows our male Magpie to mount her and do his thing. Unlike our female ducks that play hard to...

Are these two the same or not?

Tbitt, they look like the same breed, maybe just came from different parents. Like the difference you see in the EEs? I don't want to mess with with my internet connection to much by trying to get your video to load :P , but if your hearing something that sounds like the chick needs to do a...

    Nebraskans Speak Up!!! NEBRASKA ROCKS!!

Some of those days when it was pretty dang cold out or it was colder because of the winds, our coop was fairly comfortable inside .. even with the chicken's door left open to the run. The only time their door got shut was when I knew it was going to get 10 degrees or below. I totally agree with...

    Nebraskans Speak Up!!! NEBRASKA ROCKS!!

Hello All :) First off, Chickee35, sorry about the loss of your coop :( It was our first winter here too in Nebraska. It wasn't to bad considering everything we've found out wrong/not up dated with this house. lol I'm sure next winter will be a lot warmer in here! All 6 of my chickens I...

    I need some ideas

We made nesting "boxes" in a dresser. Only the top has a drawer front nailed on to make it still look like a dresser. Where the middle drawers would be we cut out everything between those two to make the nesting area taller, and put a board for the bottom, a board to divide in the middle so...

Post here if you DON'T wash clean-looking eggs

Only if theres a mark does that mark get wiped off with a piece of wet paper towel. Eggs are stored in the frig. I mentioned this topic to my bf and said he does wash the eggs before using the them, .. I don't. lol

Ideas for no or low waste chick feeders?

I used a ceramic dog bowl that had the high sides, and filled 1/2 way. When the chicks scratched, the food mostly just hit the sides inside the bowl. I got frustrated with the standard chick feeders. I bet more was wasted than what they ate, especially when someone was able to get on top and...

    keeping bedding IN the coop!

We don't have nearly as much straw coming out of our coop as you mentioned, but I am thinking that something needs to be done anyways because small baled straw is hard to find where we're at. I'm thinking for the human door putting a piece of plywood cut to the width of the door frame and only...

I'm almost always up to late. lol On our way of heading out of Kearney this evening up until after 10pm there was a Fantastic lightning show going in the distance east & southeast of us on the roads. By about 9 and a little after 10pm where we were, we could see where it was raining by the...
