Guess my packing peanuts

My peanuts are now 16 weeks old. I received 5 when I ordered from Ideal. Well they are Production Reds , I got 4 males and 1 female. They pretty mean so we've decided to use them all for meat birds.

Well then, that's probably what I have. I have 10 right now. they are 7 weeks old and they all look like roosters although I'm hoping for at least one to be a hen. All meat birds here as well. When are you going to send yours to freezer camp?

We Still have no idea what the packing peanuts are that we got from Ideal back in Feb.
They did look a lot like the chicks you posted. Now at about 3 & 1/2 months old, they seem to be more leg than meat, and ugly. Not one of them has much of a tail developing.
We're thinking Ideal is allowing cross breeding to happen.

Do they look like this?

I'm holding out till about 20 weeks old. They wont be hugely meaty but enough for for dinner.

I Lucked out. 1 of my reds IS a hen. No doubt about it. One less bird to butcher and another egg layer for free.
They are 10 weeks old now. in about 2 more weeks the 9 roosters are making the move to the bachelor pen. No more free range for them. I'm feeding 28% turkey starter and cracked corn for 8 weeks to see if I can beef them up a bit.

I just got 8 peanuts with my order from Ideal today. I too am guessing production reds, they'll make decent freezer birds if I don't end up selling them off first.

I am totally new to chickens....inherited my hens and got my first chicks from the feed store....but this whole notion of packing peanuts.....it's part pathetic, part hilarious, part outrageous, part lottery jackpot!! I'm not quite sure what to think!

your babies are adorable though!!! And hope you can make good use of your 'winnings'!

Packing Peanuts....even the term....
