The show in Scribner runs at the end of April, so it won't be for a while yet, but if you ever get down to lincoln they have the other poultry club's show at the lancaster event center at the beginning of November. Its a good time going to the shows. there are always lots of breeds to see and lots of people to talk to about things. Its also a good way to meet up with people from on here when you run across them.

What all do you have for breeds?

I have three juv Ameracauna's that are just darlings, I have three RIR cross, 1 leghorn, and 1 barred bantem, that I have no idea what she is, because she lays white eggs.

Awww....I'm so sorry to hear about your flock! That's terrible! I really can't stand chicken predators....yarg! I hope that you can figure out what it is soon for sure and find a way to get rid of it so your birds will be safe again.

Nebraska doesn't seem to be to much into chickens, like I thought it would be. I figured being out in the "country" meant quite a few people would have chickens, and they don't. Why?

Looking on CL (Grand Island area, which includes Kearney), there might be the occasional rooster looking for a new home. No thanks! I ended up with 4 roosters out of the 5 banties I got back in May from Orscheln's.
I hate to compare NE to IL even on CL, but the difference between the two when it comes to poultry or anything poultry related, is surprising!

We went to the Furnas Co Fair and only saw 5 chicken entries for poultry during Family Night, most were roosters. Maybe the owners were able to bring them home because of the heat? .. I'm just so used to seeing a full pole barn or large tent filled with poultry entries for all kinds of poultry at any county fair back in IL, and about a 1/4 of the entries being for sale after being judged. I was pretty much shocked at the minium entries, and a little disappointed. I was hoping to help a kid out.

Yeah...the county fairs don't have the turn out like they used to. There are poultry breeders here tho

If you can make it there will be a poultry show in Lincoln at the Lancaster event center at the beginning of November. Most of those I know that are into showing and such dont tend to post on Craigslist, they are more old school word of mouth and selling at the shows and etc.

I can't wait to attend the Lincoln one in November! gilavina, can you let me know when its going to be? Hubby said he'd love to go too. LOL Kind of liking the chicken thing here. I'd love to see what the area has for breeds.

I'll post all the info to let you know as soon as I get the dates and times down for sure. I am hoping to do some showing myself...mostly have to wait to see if my birds will be in feather at the moment. Are there any certain breeds you are particularly interested in?

I've already mentioned a poultry show in Nov to my bf. So, you've got two more people interested in going too!

I'm trying to get used to the "word of mouth" thing. lol

Up late too I see. Thunder's been pretty loud tonight here. I'm happy to pass along info about poultry related stuff as it comes up. I grew up showing here since I was a kid and the 'word of mouth' thing used to be pretty much how everything was done. Funny part is that I'm not even that old....I secretly kind of like that pace of life after living in Mpls for quite a few years.

If you ever have questions about anything I'd be happy to try and help. The poultry show is usually the first weekend in Nov...but want to double check for sure so I don't send misinformation in case they have changed it.

I'm almost always up to late. lol

On our way of heading out of Kearney this evening up until after 10pm there was a Fantastic lightning show going in the distance east & southeast of us on the roads. By about 9 and a little after 10pm where we were, we could see where it was raining by the lightning lighting up the dark sky. Pretty cool!
So far, By Far, NE is the best place to watch storm clouds and sunsets .. oh, and to see rainbows.

I'm pretty sure what I'm hearing now, is thunder, but nothing close by .. yet.

Well at least I know a round-about date to look forward to
