    yolk and shell laid separetely?

I have been having something quite similar happening. I have found 2 eggs now dropped on the poop board that had soft shell. Yesterday and today I found yolk only on the poop board. The first one, yesterday, was in the same place as the 2 soft shell eggs. The one today was in a different...

    Laying hen not nesting

I have had 2 eggs that have been dropped from the roost bar before I let them out in the morning. Apparently this hen, a black sex-link, hasn't gotten the idea of nesting before dropping her egg. I don't know if she is dropping them at night when she is too drowsy to move, of the hour between...

    Hen not maturing?

I have 3 Rhode Island Red and 3 Black Sex-Link hens. They are all the same age and have begun laying eggs. One of the RIR's comb and wattle has not matured like the rest. She is more skittish than the rest so I have not been able to really touch her. The others do the rooster squat (we have...

Chickens suddenly stopped going in coop at night!

You might want to check for red mites also. They can get in coops and create havoc.

    idias for baby chick perches?

I found some bird perches in the pet section of WalMart. My girls really love them. They screw onto the side of my dog kennel/chicken brooder. They are easy to adjust in placement and in height.

    Black sex-link personality?! and pics

I have 3 BSL's and 3 RIR's. All are very sweet and get along with each other. They are only 4 weeks old now. One BSL, Raven, always comes and jumps on my arm. Sometimes they get sqawky when I pick them up, like they don't remember they are ok with that. Then later if I pick them up again...

    calling any one from missouri

So, it got cold again, only 34 degrees today and wet. Has anyone put their babies out yet? Mine are a month old now. They are starting to get a little cramped in their dog kennel, but doing ok. We still have to finish the chicken yard, but have electricity to the hen house installed so they...

How do I tame flighty two week-old chicks?

My 2 week olds got a lot better when I switched them to a wire dog kennel (they out-grew their storage box). They, too, were really flighty when I approached them and especially when I reached down to them. (Oh no!! a hawk, a hawk!!) Now they don't run when I approach them. It does make it...

    New broody box

I just moved my 2 week olds ( 3 RIR and 3 Black Sex-Link) from a 33 gallon tote box to a wire dog kennel. Who knew they would grow so fast. They want so badly to see out and fly. I had no idea they would start to fly so soon. We put some hardware cloth over the tote box after 1 week, now...
