    "Tired" Hen

Help! I have a hen that is acting strange but is showing no symptoms. We let our chickens out to free range and she stayed in the coop and stood there with her eyes closed. Now usually my rirs I can not pick up but I walked right up to her and picked her up. There are no swollen eyes, feet are...

    Cayuga drake swollen abdomen

Thanks y'all! I checked on him again today and the "bump" is still there. I haven't had a chance yet to chase him down and press it again today but will try as soon as I can.

    Cayuga drake swollen abdomen

Thanks! My other drake does not have the sagging "pouch" but the hard spot I felt on both of them seemed to be bone. I pressed around in both of them to make sure they cayuga had no differences between him and the ancona. The pouch seems to be saggy skin but I've never encountered anything like...

    Cayuga drake swollen abdomen

With your hens cyat do you feel a ball or anything? With my drake it feels like just extra skin. He's acting totally normal and still runs fast. His eating is good too. It seems to be pretty close to his poop chute too. Oh and he's molting.

    Cayuga drake swollen abdomen

I just check him it's completly soft like there's nothing there but skin. I pressed a little harder but I'm pretty sure it was bone I touched. I then picked up my Ancona drake and check to see if he had the same bone structure and it was exactly the same. The Cayuga is a little over a year and...

    Cayuga drake swollen abdomen

Help my Cayuga drake just developed this bump under his abdomen today I believe. I'm not sure what it could be. There has been no feed changes and his pool is changed daily.

    Pecking order

Yes we are cautious with the chicken math. They get to go out and free range daily too for a little while. It's a barred rock that is doing the pecking. Which is hard to believe since she's a parrot and snuggler and never pecks me. Now my buffs are submissive and they peck me like no other...

    I live in Jacksonville NC

Have them look up a fb group call barnyards by the sea. It's pretty much an eastern nc barnyard group. I'm out here in maple hill.

    Rooster watching hen lay

It's about the silliest thing to witness. My big roo will start crowing when the girls sing their song. But my juvenile loves to watch, such a creeper. ;) I thought I read some where hens won't lay if they are not in private so when it's that time of day he gets to free range.

    Chicken Poop

Thanks it was my juvenile roo doing this and he only did it that one time. My pale one is my hen, but temps we in the mid and high 90s. This roo just started mating too, ugh! Thankfully the "warden" keeps him in check. The juvenile and everyone else for that matter is eating and drinking just...

    Pecking order

I have to admit the pecking order is no joke! It's just downright awful! I put 3 RIRs in about 2 weeks ago, pecking order lasted about 3 days. Then my 2nd batch went in 4 days ago with all the big girls. The mix was a sizzle roo, lavender Amerucana, oe, and a black Cochin. All have been pecked...

    Chicken Poop

Thank you! I looked at so many poo images this morning I was so confused. I had no clue they did that.

    Rooster watching hen lay

I had our first hen start laying last week, she had her 5th egg today. Yesterday I had to get my juvenile roo out of the coop for she could lay since he was not to fond of her going into the nesting boxes. He went back in the run and coop after she laid. Then today Lucy laid another egg and she...
