    Clearance Bin Find

I found half a dozen of these gorgeous chicks, as well as a few black copper marans, in the clearance bins at Rural King (the "oh, crap they're flying now, sell them quick" bin), so unfortunately nobody knew what they were. They have feathered feet and big attitudes. What do you think?

Easter Eggers? Olive Eggers? Or duped?

Thanks so much everyone! Looks like I'm going to have an assortment of colored eggs in my future!

Easter Eggers? Olive Eggers? Or duped?

They are not bantam. So Easter Eggers don't need to have muffs and pea combs?

Easter Eggers? Olive Eggers? Or duped?

Picked these precious fluffs up the other day out of the "Americana" bin at TSC. The blue/black/splash chicks had foot feathering so grabbed five of those. None have muffs or pea combs. What do you think? The blue and black almost look Marans to me, so I was thinking possibly Olive...

    Tiny Blue Cockerel

    Awesome, thanks everyone!

    Tiny Blue Cockerel

We can't figure out what he is. Definately a bantam as he's smaller than same-aged silkies. Thought maybe cochin due to his leg feathering, but he doesn't look like our other cochins. He's very flighty, so it was a miracle I actually got these photos.

    Want to Confirm Chick Breed/Color

All his chicks have been solid black regardless of what color hen. Lavendar is a recessive dilution gene over black base color and none of my hens carry that gene. This is the only chick with red coloration on his head, though.

    Want to Confirm Chick Breed/Color

This little guy was hatched a couple days ago by my Ameraucana, and then she tried to kill him (she decided to kill everyone but her solid black chicks) so I'm his momma now. Not her chick biologically, and mom is most likely my Rhode Island Red judging by the red coloration, unless one of my...

    Mustang Fencing

Thank you everyone for the replies! I know I took forever to reply. Oops. Doublete, your mustangs are gorgeous! We are looking to adopt two untouched mares, so no prior training or handling. I was wondering about the separate enclosures! I might build a 6' paddock and divide it in half.

    Our First Little Genetics Project

I'm hatching my first clutch of eggs due out of the eggs September 5th. Blue dot and Red dot eggs are from my BSL Barred Rock and Rhode Island Red cross hens, Sharkie and Rexy. The 3 Sharkie chicks I'm hoping will be black like mom and develop her signature purple sheen, assuming their daddy...

    SEPTEMBER HATCH-A-LONG!!!

I'm joining the hatch-a-long for the first time ever. I'm hatching eggs from my two favorite sweetheart BSL hens and a silver-laced Wyandotte. Dad is either a golden neck D'uccle or a lavendar Orpington. We are choosing good health and temperament for our barnyard mix flock, but we are expecting...

Any reforming a rooster that acts like a jerk?

I would find him a home with someone looking for a flock guardian. He wants to protect. Then get yourself a Belgian D'uccle rooster. They don't have spurs and are a quarter the size of your usual rooster, yet alert and tough little suckers. I love my little D'Uccle. He never gets an attitude...

    Mustang Fencing

Our new property is not quite ready for horses yet, but we are eager to get our fencing up to par. We will be adopting untamed BLM mustangs next time they roll through Florida. Does anyone have experience with holding wild horses in? We have 3 and a half acres to secure. Current fence is 4' 3...

Can't decide what breed of rooster to get...

Those rainbow rocks are gorgeous! If these two boys didn't need a home, I would have considered one. :) I've given my chickens autonomy to do what they wish, they aren't here for me. And I love roosters. Any boys born on my property are welcome to stay until they die. These Orpingtons don't...
