For the roo, I would say that he is very red in the face with a small comb. These are both unwanted characteristics for a silkie to have. And, these will be passed on to offspring.

I was wondering if it would be possible to create a new color of silkie by crossing certain colors and creating a gene pool of this certain color. I would really enjoy it if you guys here at BYC would help me come up with a new color. Here's the ones I've got so far:

My chicks arrived this February and they were supposed to get the first egg the beginning of August, but we've gotten 6 eggs so far, so I would put up nest boxes just to be safe.
I have heard that if you put mustard inside an egg (have no clue how) the hens will gradually stop eating their eggs because chickens don't like the taste of mustard (I guess I'm a chicken then! )

They are very cute. I just received 7 Silkies, 5 Americaunas, and 15 other chickens. I don't remember the other breeds I got. But, now we only have 25 because one of the Silkies, as well as another Americauna died. We really kinda hoped the Silkie would last, but it didn't, and we weren't...

One of my new silkies has a bad hip. I have him/her separated from the other 26 chicks. I was wondering if this is a common thing for the breed. He/she also is trying to balance so he has a bad wing. Can you think of anything else to do to help? The chick is in a cardboard box and just huddles...
