Our Chickens turned 16 weeks today and the one Roo started crowing at 0530 this morning, wlhat a funny sound he is making! It isn't at all refined yet and I'm sure the neighbors won't want it to develop into a full. My question is this: Is it too soon to slaughter? He has been fed grain and...
I am having the same situation . We bought three BR all at a few days old and one is black and white but totally different feather patterns... actually most exquisite looking, but I think she is a he because of the comb he/she is growing. They are all almost 11 weeks old now and I'm worried...
I think I may have a ROO too. Mine are 11 weeks old and one definitely has a good sized comb! At what point will he start to fertilize my hens? When should I separate him from them?
Thanks everyone for sharing all your pictures. I really enjoyed seeing them... Now I HAVE to get a Silverlaced Wyandotte!!! They are truly beautiful. Thanks again.
We have a Cuckoo Marans who at one day old had red on top of her head.... now its gone. She is so much bigger than all the other breeds, We're hoping she is a hen not a him / roo . What do you think?

My Avatar is an Orpy at one day old... sitting on the edge of her mini-pool as if to say : "if we ain't laying, we're playin.... by the pool." Really she was sitting on the edge and took a drink, RIR next to her. They are so sweet and wonderful
Recently lost one of my Ory's..... They really are my favorite.... Incredibly attentive to me. All eight (mixed breeds) were far off and I called her name.... "Buffy" and she immediately turned and came a runnin ! She's just six weeks old..... Found out the store I bought them at didn't immunize...
Last Thread was dated 2008, so I'm starting a new more updated one. We are a small convent of Sisters located in Santa Clarita Valley, So Cal. We have nine chicks, assorted varieties but all hens. One I think may have Mareks, but I'm unsure. I hope she survives, she is a beautiful little thing...
