I'm looking to do my first round of Meat birds this spring but I'm wondering when I can put them outside in a tractor here in NY? TS gets them in between March-May. I'm looking to butcher around 6-10 weeks but I'm thinking they'll need a lamp the whole time?
This is my first year with turkeys and I have two Spanish turkeys. I’ve tried playing calls to get them to gobble, but they just tilt heads 🤷♀️ I read that females have lighter tips and a Mohawk up the head, while males have dark tips and no feathers up the head. Is that what anyone else sees...
I’m unsure if this is due to drinking too much water or a sign of something else. Any idea? I have three week old turkeys and 7 guinea in the same area.
I’m new to turkeys and have 4 black Spanish pullets being raised with 7 Guinea fowl. All have been doing well since Thursday when I picked them up. This morning one turkey is on his/her back sleeping? I picked it up and it was shaking a bit so I put it under the lamp and is acting “normal”...
I'm about to start setting up my coop/run for 7 chicks, 7 guinnea, and 4 turkeys (turkeys will be slaughtered for thanksgiving) but I'm worried its not predator proof enough. The total area will be 8x22' rectangle with an 6x8' Amish coop at one end, 10' of welded wire dog kennel fencing...
I’ve placed and order for 6 keets, 3 turkeys and 6 Easter eggers. I hope to raise them all together, but have decided it might be best to split the game birds from the chicks do to feed requirements. I also plan on making two coops with a shared run for all three. All will be able to free range...
I read it the same way but I was 100% sure, thank you for the quick response! 15sq.ft. will make my husband happy since they'll be taking up space in his garage :)
I've had chickens for two years now and decided to expand to turkeys. But finding detailed information on turkey is much more difficult then chickens
~My biggest question right now is how big should I make my boarder to house 17 turkeys for 6 weeks?? I know they need more space then chickens...
also have you checked your yard? they may be just laying around the yard. Try keeping them in the coop for a few days without letting them out too see if theyre laying. most hens wont lay in a nesting box the first time. they lay where ever. and if they have been laying in the yard, they'll keep...
agreed^ I also do the same and ended up with two well behaved roo's. and once he's a year old, I think its safe to say most of your eggs will be fertile. by then you should see him mounting...
