I need to find a female duck that will be big enough for my Pekin drake. He’s too rough for my other Pekin named Waffles (who tuned out to be very small) I’m just not sure how or where to buy a full grown duck. Also I’m scared that it’ll carry a disease and I won’t know and get my other ducks...
I have been sick since last week so I haven’t been out with my ducks too often this past week so I have no idea how to explain the visual things in this like how she was limping or what her eggs had looked like.
I have a 6 month old female Welsh Harlequin named Popcorn who has been having some...
I had the same thing happen to me before with 4 of my ducklings. We wrapped them with a warm damp paper towel and had them sitting up in a cup with a heating lamp. All 4 that had this problem made it and I still have them today. You definitely did the right thing, I don’t remember exactly how...
I wouldn’t worry about the bill freckles. Ducks bill color is determined by the Melanin (color pigment) in your ducks beak. So the black spots are usually just extra pigmentation which is completely normal. You can’t see most ducks spots because of the xanthophyll in certain ingredients of their...
Does any one have a picture of what a Rouen/Welsh Harlequin or a Rouen/Pekin duck might turn out to look like? I want to breed my Rouen male to my small pekin female or to one of my welsh harlequins (I have a silver and a golden.) I’m not sure which one I want to breed him with though.
Thank you so much, that really helps a lot! I will definitely make sure I research before I choose. I am trying to stay away from hunting dogs, retrievers, terriers, greyhounds, and herding dogs.
I would love to get a rescue dog! That is a great idea! I would definitely have to make sure I adopt one that is okay with being around all kinds of animals.
Which ever breed I get I know I will have to train them and I’m willing to put in the time and work to do so. Some breeds are more prey driven than others so I’m looking for a dog that doesn’t already have a mind set of the fact that my ducks are it’s dinner. You’ve done amazing with training...
Definitely give lots of snacks! I usually just sit near my ducklings and will have treats in my hand that way they are the ones approaching me so they know I’m not a threat and after a little while they start to get more comfortable and will start to hop on me and cuddle with me.
That’s awesome! Bulldogs are actually one of my favorites breeds, because I love how sweet they are! Thank you so much for your reply I will definitely look into it.
I’m looking into getting another dog, but I need a breed that won’t hurt or chase my ducks. I know I will have to train my dog no matter which breed I get, to not bother my ducks, but I know that some dogs have higher prey drives than others so I wanted to ask on here first to see the breeds...
We are definitely going to try. I’m hoping they can see her sometime tomorrow. I have 9 ducks right now(I have a huge back yard so they have plenty of space to roam around) and I absolutely love them so much, so that was why I get a bit nervous to take them. All of them except for Waffles are in...
I didn’t know that, we had went on a website that had said that was a possible solution to wet feathers, so that is why we had done it. Thank you, we won’t be using that on her anymore. We are going to take her to an avian vet that is near by hopefully.
