BarnGoddess: Thanks for the info on the frizzle. Maybe there is still hope. I really want her to be a frizzle. Also congrats on the togetherness of your flock. It's so nice that they can all be together, easier on you too.
Jloeffler: If you can let your kids hold the hatching eggs I...
You all are so sweet. Thanks for asking about the babies. All is wonderful this morning. All 8 are hatched and full of fluffy goodness! My kiddos are loving this hatch even more because we've been able to participate more. Last night I was able to use something Miss Lydia once said and I...
Once again hatch day was early. Well, half early. Went in to change water and check food and I see 4 little eyes peeking out from under Boneless Chicken's bum. After some gentle investigation I discovered that 2 others had hatched as well. One was brand new, still wet and resting on...

I don't know how she is still able to sit on them! Too cute
Did the stork bring your babies yet? I've been gone for awhile (sick family, ugh) but I didn't see any news when I skimmed back posts.
Wonderfully sweet pictures BarnGoddess! My favorite was also little Hannah sleeping with Momma. I very much want a frizzle. One of the eggs under my broody is supposed to be a frizzle but we'll see what happens. Speaking of that, we're waiting for babies at any time now. Tomorrow is hatch...

Isn't it amazing to see all that movement inside the eggs? I candled my 2nd broody's eggs yesterday (day 8)h this time using a mini LED flashlight. I was shocked at what I saw compared to the other light I used last time! DD and I were just ooohing and ahhhing at the little globs...

I have. I just finished building it about a week ago. My broody needed a separate place to go so I decided why not build that for her. Didn't cost me much at all as I already had a bunch of the lumber, roofing and screws here at the house. The blocks that I put it on were the most expensive...
I actually candled eggs today using both a mini LED flashlight and also a powerful makita flashlight with a toilet paper tube resting on top. I've only candled a couple of times before this always using the big flashlight. Wasn't really understanding what all the candling fuss was about...

Congrats on the coming babies. I'm new to this too but I would say don't candle this late in the game. I wouldn't even mess with Momma now. They should be hatching anytime. If she keeps peeking under her you may already have some babies. We all love pics here....hint hint.

Mama will keep her chicks warm as toast.
Lord, I hope so!
And by "in the house" I actually mean in the garage. DH would definitely Never go for in the house.
Edited for brain lapse...
No heat lamp for me then. Thanks again all. Sometimes I wonder why I feel the need to go all...

Now I'm worried about my second broody. For this broody I decided not to leave her with the flock. I built her a little coop of her own and am going to work on the run today. If our temps decide to take a plummet before the chicks are fully feathered would adding a light inside the...

Wow, it's amazing how each broody is so different. Mine is a wuss! She seems to be doing well with the teaching, warming, loving side of things but when it comes to protecting...not so much. I finally had to just let it go today and realize that since I'm not actually a chicken and I...
I agree about the number of chicks to give the broody. Right now I have a LF Ameraucana on 8 eggs and the poor thing is so flat. I can't imagine trying to give a little NN more than just a couple of chicks to keep warm.
