I suggest you get it to the vets, we had this with one of our runners and it turned out to be bacterial infection that needed treating with antibiotics
We used to have a lovely black mutt called Scarlett who would come in the kitchen everyday and lay her egg in the corner, sadly she got killed by a dog the day after one of her eggs won best contents at a show
