    Roost ventilation

We are in the desert in CA with temps in the 100's during the summer and low 30's in the winter. Our coops stay warm in the winter and cool in the summer. I think it has a lot to do with our ventilation.

    Bedding for coop?

Even my older girls eat the pine shaving a little bit. I haven't had a problem ever with impaction. My current 4 chicks have been on pine shavings since we brought them home.

    Coop size for four?

We are in murrieta (45 mins north of SD) in the suburbs. We have a small coop with four hens. Currently expanding the coop to accommodate more in the spring. I think the current coop is 9 sq ft, most ppl say that is way too small but my girls are very happy and cozy in it. Good luck, chickens...

Our Americauna is also flighty. She just started laying today and the egg was in the nesting box but I am surprised. We so have golf balls in our nesting boxes, have you tried that?
