    Mites?

My wife works at a vet, and has access to the spray front line...will that work for the second treatment instead of the dusting?

    Mites?

Just finished cleaning the entire coop and sprayed everything down with Permethrin, seems to have worked great! I haven't seen a mite moving since i sprayed, looks like it killed them immediately. Dusting the birds was a different story..I think my wife and I have more dust on us then the...

    Mites?

Thanks. I haven't noticed them on my birds yet, but I will look at them tomorrow. I assume that they have to be on the birds since there are so many on the walls, etc. If they are not on the birds, should i dust the coop anyways?

    Mites?

Just found another thread talking about mites, and looks like Sevin dust is what is recommended. Any tips on how to dust my birds? Where should I put it? Do i cover the entire coop and next boxes? Thanks,

    Mites?

Recently I have noticed a ton of mites in my coop. They are extremely tinny, and I'm assuming they are mites. My birds seem to be doing fine, but I'm thinking I should get them out if possible. So, what's the best way to wipe them out? They are mostly on the walls/ceiling/and where the roost...

Will hens go broody without a rooster

I have 7 hens, all about 1 year old. they have never gone broody until yesterday. I just recently got a rooster (only about 4 months old) from a neighbor. Now, i have one hen wanting to sit. Just curious if hens will go broody without roosters, or if it's because i now have a rooster? thanks

    Sudden death of a hen?

I went to gather eggs the other afternoon and let the chickens out, and found one of our hens dead under the roost, and i assume she died over night? She was acting fine the day before, showing NO signs of illness or weird behavior. I inspected the body before i moved it and didn't notice...

    Egg collecting question?

Yeah, we have people that can help collect. I guess what i was asking is if there are any guidelines about "how long is too long". We typically collect every day, but just wanted more info in case that ever has to happen, etc.. thanks

    Egg collecting question?

How long can i go without collecting eggs? For example, if I go on vacation for a week, will the eggs still be okay edible after that period of time? thanks

    Traditional feeders/waterers

I made my own waterer for around $5, and it holds about 3 gallons of water. I bought two nipples and put them int the bottom of a bucket i got for free from the local deli. The traditional waterer that held 3 gal. of water was $35, so it was significantly cheaper for me, and mine only took me...

    Wall Mounted Feeders

I built mine out of 3" PVC (not the schedule 40 kind, it's overkill and expensive), a 45 degree elbow, then a 90 degree elbow. I based mine on several other examples from this board. It cost me around $10 to make, and probably holds 30 lbs. + of feed. I had to put a cap on the end to reduce...

Update on Coop, pretty much finished, birds have move in

Quote: the rafters (2x4's on end) are not notched, just laid them on the frame and used a nail gun to drive a nail on either side of each 2x4 rafter into the frame. then we put 2x2 across the 2x4's, then screwed the metal roof down with roofing screws.

Update on Coop, pretty much finished, birds have move in

Quote: I was told they are black sex-links. I don't know too much about breeds, but that is what i was told when i bought them. I like the PVC feeder as well, but it seems to be allowing a lot of waste. I'll modify it some day?
