Normally my Black Copper Maran's comb and waddle are red, but this morning I noticed it is now orange as well as the coloring around her eyes that are normally red are now orange. She is a year old and seems to be doing fine, not acting sick or lethargic. I just want to know if this is early...
A chicken quesadilla that my rooster named James Brown stole off of my son's plate when he was eating his lunch outside. All of the other chickens were chasing it all around the yard trying to tear off a piece. It just seemed so wrong.
I also found a green plastic bb from my son's airsoft...
I have 1 Black Copper Maran hen that hatched March 24. I ordered 2 but one did not make it after a few days. She is one of my favorites of the 19 of chicks I ordered, very curious and outgoing and not skiddish at all. She has been the only one to jump on my lap or arm when I bend down to offer...
Mine do the exact same thing, I have 6 girls that do this (well actually 5) my Speckled Sussex is so aloof and goofy she will hold it for about a minute then go about her business. The others will hold the position like you said for 10 minutes. It's so funny like they are playing that kid game...
My EE from Privett hatchery that I got last year is the sweetest, friendliest chicken I have. She likes to be held and falls asleep in my and my daughters arms. This year I ordered 2 from Meyer and one of them is my most skittish out of 19 chicks that I got from them. The other one is not as...
Once I put golf balls in each nesting box, they used all of them. I once found 3 trying to cram themselves in one 12x12 nesting box, it was pretty funny, but I worried about eggs breaking or getting kicked out. Fake plastic eggs works too.
Sounds like what I am going through which is a mild case of Infectious Bronchitis. Are they sneezing or making a honking sound? I think my chickens got them from all the wild birds around my place since we live in the country next to the woods. It's been several months but the whites have...
I wish I could have 1 of every single kind..haha. I will try to post pics on Tuesday on my next day off. They were hard to figure out which two are the EE's, but I can tell one EE for sure now because of the puffy cheeks, the other is between two that I have so I'll post both.
I live in Washington State, I ordered 19 that were shipped this last Mon. and I received them Wed. when the post office called at 5am to say my babies were here! I paid extra for express, so not sure if that helped. I opened the box preparing myself to find some not alive, but they all were...
I bought 16 last year from from our local farm store that received their's from Privett. They were supposed to be all pullets, but 6 ended up being roosters! Only 1 silkie passed away from unknown causes, the rest had been healthy. The bantam Cochins I gave away because they were really mean...
Anyone have an idea of what Meyers uses as breeds for their Golden Buffs? I am contemplating adding some to my order on March 24 hatch date. Anyone ever have a problem health wise with them?
A friend of mine has the same problem as you eating store bought eggs. I feed my chickens only Scratch and Peck which is an organic, non soy, non gmo feed and she can eat my eggs with no problem. So it could be what you are feeding your chickens.
Thanks for all of the responses! Kellieetal hope the lighting works for you. Seems like your maran might be a little older if she is molting already? That sounds a little suspicious. I just remembered I had clipped the wings about the time they stopped laying because they were flying over...
