    Ridgway Colorado

Hi All I'm considering moving to Ridgway CO. Any BY chicken members in that area? I hate to give up my chicks for the move and wanted to know if you have insight on where in the area people are raising chickens. Thanks!

Chicken Vet on supplemental light to increase winter egg production

This was a great thread to read. I am in NW Colorado mountains and have had chickens unlit for 10 years, rarely get eggs in winter until spring even with the new layers each year, they sometimes won't start till mid-March (maybe 10 mos old). I just added light, in the am with a LED rope light...

Topic of the Week - How long do chickens live?

Hi Meri Maura, What breeds made it to what ages? I have a mixed flock and some of my girls are 6 this year. I'm trying to figure out lifespan so I can plan if I should get chicks this year or not.

    Laying eggs outside the coop

Update, locked them up for a few days and now she is laying inside the coop. So far just under the next boxes, so hopefully she'll be getting more comfortable to lay inside soon. Thanks for the tips all!

Advice about pullet collecting eggs in rollaway nest box

I too have a chick trying to get eggs under her from my rollaway. I'm going to give the Velcro idea a try. Thanks for the tip.

    Laying eggs outside the coop

Thanks, I was thinking of locking them up in the run that has no access to this bush. There were 12 in there when I finally found the stash. I have 18 hens, only 5 new ones laying right now. Box is a community box, with a rollout to the rear. It's 3' wide and there are fake eggs in the back...

    Laying eggs outside the coop

Hi All, my little Sunflower "easter egger" is laying her eggs under some rose bushes. She seems like she's low on the totem pole and not sure if she was bullied out of the nest boxes. She is one of 5 birds this year in a mixed flock of 18 with ages up to 5 years old. Only the newbies are...

Thank you! The coop is 7.5' wide by 13' deep. I have 18 birds and they are very comfortable. The run is pretty small as they have access to the underneath of the coop in addition to the run. In the non-snow months they do free range.

    Woods-style house in the winter

Here's my Woods Open Air Coop and She Shed combo. I live in a very cold climate in CO so have a rollaway egg box to the shed attachment. Can't wait to see it in the snow. Thanks all for the threads and to Jack E for starting this and Ted Brown for cold climate advice. Shed is 10x8, Coop is...

Hello Ted, I'm planning on building an 8x12 woods coop, elevated 2'. I'm in Steamboat Springs Co and the hubby is arguing that this is a bad idea for our climate 450" of snow this year. How's your coop performing? Thanks!

So beautIful! Can you tell me how many chicks you have? Also is there any drafts towards the rear of the coop or are your dimensions working like the woods model. I am in a cold climate and trying to convince my hubby that this is the design for us. Thanks for posting!
