This morning I overheard my husband tell his brother I had become a crazy chicken lady .... treating all 17 chicks like my babies. Well .... yeah .... duh .... I assured him I was not alone :-)
Mine are 3 weeks old today, and I've given them smushed boiled egg once along with chick grit when they were outside. They weren't sure at first, but within the hour had eaten it all. I'm new at this, I hope I didn't cause a problem.
Our chicks eat constantly ... and when I refill their feeder they fall on it like they've never eaten before. Maybe the person you're getting the chicks from can sell you enough food to get through the night?
Good luck!
In the 3 years our local TSC has been open, we have not been pleased with their product knowledge -- ie no idea and no interest in finding out which belt was needed for a bush-hog purchased from there, that type of thing. But I have been pleasantly surprised with my visits to both the Commerce...

I'm too new to the forum to post pics, but I have them. If anyone is interested I'll happily send via email.
I got carried away at TSC and bought too many chickens. I'd love to find a good home for 4-6 of my "commercial red pullets" - they will be 3 weeks old on Friday, hatched on 3/17/11...
So glad they came today!
After a year or so of debate, I'm a first time chicken Mom (4 kids and 6 grand kids, and these chicks still make me SO nervous!). I canceled a mail-order with Stromberg's because they couldn't ship until late May (several different breeds decided upon after much...
