    Chick feathering spotty

Thank you!! I do love the coloring! It's different to what we normally get. Typically we hatch all black chickens that come from our cochin/silkie pen. This time we had two out of the three hatch with colors we normally don't get!! One is lavender-ish color that you can see in the back of the...

    Chick feathering spotty

We have a baby chick that is considerably smaller than the two it hatched with (probably half the size). It also is quite bald, especially on it's back. I didn't think much of it until today when I saw it standing with the other two. I also noticed that it's feathers are not really feathers but...

    Devastated beyond belief

Thank you 💗 I encourage you to do so. I saw the baby poking it's head out from under the two moms last night (it sleeps under both of them right in the middle). I always look around to make sure there are no snakes before closing up, but it definitely got in during the night.

Thank you 💗 It has been a sad morning after this. I cannot shake the image of the snake laying there.

    Devastated beyond belief

Today I went to let our chickens and everything seemed fine. As I was walking away, I noticed that the baby chick being raised by two of our hens was not out with them. This is not typical as it comes out with them every morning. It is a couple of months old. I went back in and searched the coop...

    Chick color help!

Aww we used to have one. She was in a separate run and coop so it wouldn't be her. However, we do have mottled cochins.

    Chick color help!

The parents are silkie/cochin mixes. Mostly black. But the parents of the parents (while still silkie/cochins) have more varied coloring. One of the hens in the coop is a dark grey smooth satin silkie.

    Chick color help!

These chicks hatched a short time ago (I cannot remember the exact day but they are over a week old). I was wondering if anyone has chickens that looked similar as chicks and if they could show me their coloring now. Or what color you may think they'll be? They come from a pen with silkie/cochin...

    Silkie or Silkie/Polish cross?

Do you happen to have a picture? She sounds gorgeous!

    Silkie or Silkie/Polish cross?

Oooh sounds very pretty. Now I want to see if I can get a chick with that coloring.

    Silkie or Silkie/Polish cross?

That makes sense. If I were to hatch one of her eggs that is crossed with a silkie then it would come out her coloring?

    Silkie or Silkie/Polish cross?

These chicks hatched June 9th. I know it's way too early to tell what the genders are, so I'm not thinking about that yet. I am curious about coloring/breed though. The pen these two came from have a splash silkie hen, black silkie hen, buff laced hen, mottled cochin. We also have silkie roos...

Silkie developing cataract in one eye

That makes me feel much better. I noticed it this past week. And previous to that I never noticed anything odd. She has, however, been spending a lot of time off raising her baby chick. She's in an enclosed run but she will either stay in the coop or relax in a shady spot away from the others. I...

Silkie developing cataract in one eye

My 3 year old silkie, Inky, has developed a white cloudy area on her eye. It does not seem to bother her at all. I included a picture of her other eye for reference. Could this be a cataract? I posted on FB and someone said maybe she has ocular Mareks. I truly hope that's not the case. She isn't...
