Sad to say, but we did put her down
I know we were just prolonging her suffering, but I didn't want to give up until I tried my best. That was almost as hard as putting our 13 year old lab down.
I appreciate all the help and suggestions from everyone.
She doesn't seem to be getting any better, she chirps non stop for hours and I hate the thought of her suffering. Her toes are curling more despite the vitamins.
I have no idea how to put a chick down. Don't think I can hold it down and chop its head off.
I took her splint off today and all she can do is hop around in circles. It makes me so sad for her.
Even with the splint on she could only do circles, but at least she wasn't doing the splits.
Guess I will see what happens.
I did replace it after three days and have her on a puppy pee pad with pine shavings. I had her on some rubber shelf liner but she seemed to have a harder time on that.
Bless her heart she just cheeps all day long and I don't know what else to do.
I just don't want to give up to soon, I will give her a little longer then take off the splint and see what happens. I just don't know if I can put her down.
Thanks for your advice.
My little chick is now almost 2 weeks old. She has had a hard life so far. From the get go she has favored her left leg, she has been pretty wobbly, that progressed into curled toes (gave her electrolytes with vitamins which have helped with the curled toes) a few days later she was doing the...
I've got her on a rubber shelf liner and have splinted legs with a bandaid. Been giving electrolytes with vitamins and added some B 12, bought some Brewers Yeast and thought about using that instead of the B 12.
I have been putting her in a "donut" to keep her upright.
Not sure if there is...
Made a splint for splay legs and it can stand upright now. I'm going in every 2 hours to feed and water. It seems to be eating well. Do you think it could be a vitamin deficiency? From what I've read it is too young for Mareks, but I could be wrong.
New problem with 1 week old chick. We started off real wobbly, left leg didn't seem to work right and its toes were curled. The chick seemed to improve but today when I talked to my husband he said the chick was doing the splits and couldn't get up. I started the chick on electrolytes and...
Update on my little chick.....
It's growing steadier on its feet but was very lonely and peeped all the time. Drinking on its own and eating a bit of chick starter.
We went and picked up 6 more chicks for it today and it's still peeping
Love my chicks and hope this little one makes it.
