I’m not saying this is right or wrong, I Mount this underneath of my coop and locate the water dish over top of the heat lamp inside the coop. So the chickens don’t get direct light only the radiant heat from the bulb. I have found a 250 W bulb are too much so I use a 100 W.
Chicken is the second one. The first was a year and a half ago. The hen has isolated herself, is not eating, or drinking. The weather here has been very cold although the coop is heated, they do not want to leave it. The last chicken to display the symptoms passed away in about a week. Any...
Thanks. I accidentally posted this twice but the bottom line is I need to check for worms and parasites. The chicken has since died. The remaining five seem healthy but I hope to ward off any problems.
Thanks, this is all stuff I didn't know. She did pass away tonight. I have to ask about some cracked corn I feed that had worms in it. (meal worms I think) I assumed since they eat bugs it would be OK. Do you think this was wrong?
I have a red that is acting strangely. It is very solitary will not receive the other chickens. I cannot say if she's eating normally when I let them free range she pierced be keeping up with the others. I picked her up tonight and she appears to be extremely bony my question is should I let...
I have a red that is acting strangely. It is very solitary and refuses to roost with the other chickens as normal. When I picked her up today she feels very bony. A friend of mine says when they Molt this is normal. But she looks no different than the other chickens and does not appear to be...
I built 6 boxes for 6 chickens not realizing they would all use the same box. So to day I removed the six and put in one plastic bin. They all used it and it allows much more room in the coop.
Feed will last four days and water nipple system will make a gallon of water go two weeks with grass. Friends always ask to watch my chickens and kids play with them (the only rule is the coop is a safe zone, no chasing inside the coop) and I always give the attending all eggs.
I jumped in with six pullets (city code) and no coop. It takes several weeks before they can go out so mine stayed in the basement in a box with little mess. Moved to the garage when they got chatty. Coops are available prebuilt if you need time to build a big one. Get a chick feeder and chick...
They are just under a year old. The shells are generally much thicker than store eggs and recently I've had a couple broken eggs which they gobble up before I can clean up. I have five reds and one buff. Egg shapes very widely also from regular to tubular shape.
I've not had chickens long (1 year), and they are forever entertaining. This is the latest new thing I've found and I wonder if any one else has seen eggs like this. I am amased at the variety of shapes and colors of eggs they lay, but this is the first with texture. Anyone know why?
