Strange goat question, Kate are you ready for this?

Well, every time she is in heat the wethers do mount her. Her udder was not huge like a fresh doe but did have quite a bit in it. I will check her today. One of my wethers used to steal milk from my mini-nubian (she is bred and dry now) so maybe he is nursing on her. She generally does not...

Strange goat question, Kate are you ready for this?

I have two pygmy wethers. They were castrated by my vet when they were 2 months old over a year ago. No question that they are not fertile. I have a mini-nubian doe due to kid on June 7th. I have a three legged older pymy doe that was a rescue. I have had her for 7 months. I do not live near...

Who here milks a small breed goat?

I have a Mini Nubian and she gives almost a gallon. Six months after freshning she will still give at least 2 quarts. Very easy to milk too. Better teats than the Nigis. I love Nigerians also. Pygmies are meat goats and Nigis are miniature dairy goats. Be sure to get a buddy for your goat...

    Cant find chick grit...AAAHHH!

Parakeet grit in most grocery stores or Walmart. Made by Hartz Mountain. Be careful, they love it and will pig out on it. You don't want their little crops getting impacted. Good luck and have fun with your peeps!

    MiniNubians

My friends in Kansas City raise Mini Nubians. I have a doe from them. She cycles monthly like a Nigi but produces milk like a full sized Nubian. They have both does and bucks. They do semen collection also. Anyone wanting information let me know and I will get it to you. I know they have...

Holding a chicken for the first time.

I wish you as much happiness with your new hens as mine have brought me. Be sure to leave enough room in the coop for more later, oh yes, you'll want " just one more"!

    Worried about the elements

If it were me, I would put them in at night. Once you do that for a while they will learn. I know someone who lost their's to the cold becuse they didn't get inside at night in extreme weather.

    Need advice on adopted goat

Goat update. Had the vet out today. He said some goats don't care much for grain but as long as she is eating good alfalfa she is fine. She had some slight signs of eye infection and gave me some ointment to use. He thought that the fact that she bothers about her teats a lot was just a...

    Need advice on adopted goat

Thanks for the help. I have free choice baking soda out as well as free choice minerals. I think you are right about her getting adjusted because she was an only goat except for an elderly buck that was penned to not get near her. Maybe part of the adjustment is just learning to be a member...

    Need advice on adopted goat

Okay, I will get a fecal done for tapes and try to look inside her mouth. I may have the vet come out just to look her over and give an opinion also. She only picks at the chow. I tried making a buffet in a feed dish with 2 types of chow, a few raisons, some BOSS, a bit of molasses. I put...

    Need advice on adopted goat

Yes, she eats hay. I feed free choice alfalfa. I was told she was eating grass hay where she lived before. I tried putting a small amount of chicken scratch on her food and she did nibble a bit more today. I will try some molasses. I gave my goats a TSC protein pail before and they all got...
