Brugse Vechter aka Bruges Fighter Thread

Well, I found someone locally who is experienced with lots of breeds but has never had one of these. I’m hoping the rooster will like his new home. I miss knowing he’s out there patrolling my backyard though. If I had it to do over again, I might just get a flock of only Bruges Fighters. Less...

Brugse Vechter aka Bruges Fighter Thread

Hey if anyone is interested in a rooster, I have this one from Greenfire Farms that I’m going to have to let go. We are in St Louis County, Missouri. I may be driving to NC this weekend though. I could bring him along if someone is interested between here and there. We kept him because I was...

Thanks for that. I hope that I can keep him because I have close neighbors and he needs to be quiet. Maybe this is the rooster of the future for the burbs.

How much do the Bruges Fighter roosters crow? Are they very noisy?

    Bruges Fighter 9 weeks

Well, it turned out to be a cockerel for sure. I’m going to try to keep him. He’s very calm and easy to handle. He hardly ever crows so far and when he does, he sounds like an owl.

Sirius the Bruges Cockerel in St Louis, MO needs a new coop

They’re one Light Sussex and 2 Swedish Flower hens in the background. I don’t know if those others are pullets or cockerels. I think at least one of the Swedish Flower Hens is a pullet. I hate to jinx myself by thinking they are all pullets. They are a little clique though. All hatched together...

Gold Spangled Spitzhauben rooster 16 weeks old

Thanks! I found the Spitzhauben a home. Everything is a lot quieter around here without him and his two girls. The Spitzhaubens are sooo busy and curious. Strangely, his hatchmate, a Sussex, got attacked by something two days after he left. It may have been our own dog. That little vigilant...

Sirius the Bruges Cockerel in St Louis, MO needs a new coop

Sirius seems like a pretty good old boy. He’s ready to protect his own flock. He’s just trying to crow, so he needs to go. 🐦‍⬛ He’s been handled a ton and is good with the other chickens. This boy is so pretty with his metallic greens and blues. The pic is a few weeks old and doesn’t show his...

Gold Spangled Spitzhauben rooster 16 weeks old

Thanks! I’ll try that group. I had the Greenfire Farms hatching egg fever this summer. It wasn’t cheap but it was fun. We’ve got the gamut of roosters- Spitzhauben, Bruges Fighter, Light Sussex, Swedish Flower Hen, 55Flowery, and some as yet unrevealed potential roosters. Right now, the Gold...

Available in St Louis, Missouri area. I can deliver to Metro East or Southeast Missouri areas. He’s from Greenfire Farms Gold Spitzhauben line. These are fun, curious chickens. They have been handled ever day since birth. They are a Swiss breed. Very good in cold weather and hot, humid weather...

    Bruges Fighter 9 weeks

Anyone sure of the gender on this one? I think I know, but SO assertive and fighting with the older Spitzhauben cockerel last week. Vibe is more of predator than of prey. Gets along fine with the Swedish Flower Hen cockerel and pullet and the Light Sussex that was hatched with. I’m wondering if...

Thanks. That’s very reassuring. She’s getting along with the 2 Swedish Flowers and a Sussex that she hatched with. Every time I reach in to the pen, she has pecked me a couple times, then she’s fine. In person, she’s very intimidating looking, like a raptor. I like her a lot. She seems so...
