    Coop bedding material

Thanks everyone. Majority of the saw dust and wood chips is pine though it might have iron wood, hemlock, oak and maple mixed in though not much. I like the idea of wood in the main coop, hay/straw in the nesting boxes and sand/pdz on the poop boards. I also plan on putting a shallow bin under...

Thanks. I had always sprinkled it on the floor of the coop and then put down fresh bedding and provided a dust bin with DE, Wood ash and good old fashioned dirt sand mix.

Isn't it still common practice to use food grade diatomaceous earth to keep coops/chickens mite free?

I'm hoping the project can get going as we won't be able to much in the spring due to work.

    Coop Modification Recommendations

How well is everyone's coop holding up? Any other mods you've made? I'm looking at this exact type of coop for 6 average size girls and plan to add an 8ft long, 8ft wide and 6ft tall covered run to it. I'd like to raise it up about 24 inches off the ground to give them some more under coop...

I have to fit certain requirements set out by the property owner and my budget isn't big at all. This place is...

I did, they wanted over 2 grand. We just don't have that.

I'd remove that back bar leaving 8ft roost in the front.

I would only need one since it is 8ft long and I'd only have 6 girls

They had a few different blue prints. The site said they are about 6ft tall and here are some interior pics they provided. I'd prefer the pic on right with one 8ft roost bar. I can always remove the back one in the first pic to accommodate.

Getting back into the hobby need advice

I wish we had room for a 12x12. If we did that we would have no run space.

Is this type of coop worth it? Found one on sale and it is cheaper than buying the lumber and delivery. Plus they deliver it for free. The company offers 4x6 and 8x6.
