    Predators and run

Hello everyone. I'm retrofitting an existing coop. I have a nice large zig-zag area for a run that is at the edge of the woods. We have skunk, racoon, possum, probably fox, and deer. Half of the area has some sort of wooden fence, either the side of the coop, a garage or 6' tall cedar fence. I...

How do I buy 2-3 chicks in NH?

Thanks everyone! My wife is totally NOT on board, her dad raised chickens the old-school way, and so she sees them as messy and smelly. HenPen, you're right in my neighborhood! Do you have any Barred Rocks?

    Tractor + Coop = confusing?

Just thinking... I want 4 pullets. I'm thinking of a tractor for lawn/garden improvement and a permanent coop/run for winter. Will this confuse the birds? Thanks!

I think the easiest way to retrofit the coop would be to build a self-enclosed frame inside the exiting coop, that way I'll be sure not to overlook any holes in 'This Old Coop'. Thanks especially for the note on flocking with the neighbors. I will look into that...

How do I buy 2-3 chicks in NH?

Can someone please tell me how to buy only a few (2-4) chicks in NH? I want them for my kids, but live in a city and can't possibly have 12 chickens in my yard. Thanks!

    Retrofitting a large, old coop

Hi everyone, first time posting at this great forum. I have a large (6x12 foot) henhouse that has been acting as a garden shed for a couple of decades. It has electricity, large windows, vents, etc. It also has a dirt floor that has been covered over with cinder block and plywood sheets (badly...
