    I did not have them separated. Will try a second attempt and separate than from the flock. They did not hatch early, right on time. Thank you for your responses and input.

    Plastic or Metal water heater?

    DIY cookie tin heater. I use it with my plastic waterer and have never had a problem. Thinking I use a 40 watt bulb.

    I am going through a similar situation. Put the new hens in a sectioned off run next to the one I have with the existing hens. This was over a month ago.     Smallest strand of white Chritmas lights have worked for me. Have them hooked to a timer to come on around 3 a.m.

    In the past I have put then right on the floor with no problems. They work great.

    I used this last year with my 4 chickens. It worked well, but be prepared to clean it out every day. They do scratch odds and ends into the bowl. I set mine up on a few bricks and that did help a bit.

    Broody hens = lots of chicks!

    I had a friend "chicken sitting" over the weekend and I forgot to mention to her to leave the broody hen alone and not to try and check for eggs!

    This is new to me...

    I've had chickens for about a year now. One of my girls has gone broody. We have no rooster so there will be no chicks. I tried to look under her for eggs, but she bit me twice. I didn't see any, but there could be a few in there. I just leave her alone. She's been on the nest for about 5 days...
