Would love to see pictures of your guys' coops and runs! I just started building a few new portable coops since I seem to have more chickens than I do space for them.. can't imagine how that happened.. LOL
I ordered Easter Eggers from Cackle a couple of years ago and was very pleased with them! Huge color variety in the cockerels (I ordered straight run), not so much in the pullets.
Most of my hens colored out like this gal:
And two that were sort of buff and white colored like this gal...
So who else has chick fever right now?? I'm ready for this cruddy, cold winter to be over. I've already got my birds divided up into their breeding groups and am setting my incubator up today and have been scouring the internet looking for Blue Laced Red Wyandottes but it looks like they're...
Yeah, I completely understand that. It's a 13 hour drive for me from here to Colorado. It gets old after awhile. I usually leave late in the afternoon and drive straight through during the night and arrive in the morning.
If you ever do get a chance to get out that way, I highly recommend the...
I'm a member of the RMSDC and have been to quite a few of their races. :) Their fall campout is one of my favorite events. And the Leadville race course is beautiful.
I did a 22 mile race back in 2012 with an 8 dog team. Wouldn't really consider that a distance race, more like what they refer to as mid-distance. But that's the longest race I've participated in yet.
I would actually love to do some more long distance racing, but it's difficult to get the...
I do have one b*itch that will not tolerate other females (spayed OR intact) during her heat, but not quite to the level I see you were describing with your *****. I'd say it's normal for them to be a little grumpy with other b*itches, but I think you're very right in deciding to exclude her...
Yes, please don't shave Siberians. Or any double-coated breed, for that matter.

Yeah, gotta love those girls when they're in season. My least favorite time of year!
I do conformation showing as well, it's actually a ton of fun. You should like it. If you ever get a chance to go to a Specialty Show, do it! They are usually three day shows and strictly Siberians competing...
Well, I didn't expect to find a sled dog thread on BYC! How cool. :)
I have a sprint racing kennel of 17 Siberians in the midwest (though I'm moving to Colorado next year). Always happy to talk with other folks interested in the sport and answer any questions!
Ooh, I might be in the minority, but I think it's a cute little critter! Possibly a Guinea/Chicken cross? http://www.feathersite.com/Poultry/Guineas/BRKGuinHybrid.html
Are you dusting as a preventative or because they already have mites? IMO, they are old enough to be safely dusted. A friend of mine had to dust chicks that were just a week old once, and they had no adverse side effects.
Just wanted to update this -- it turned out not to be mites or any kind of parasite, they really were just being fidgety about new feathers growing in. I DID talk to someone though who had used Sevin dust on three day old chicks and it caused no harm, so wanted to share that info in case anyone...
I bet they are just lovely looking, too! I do adore my Easter Eggers and crosses there-of. How much do you want for them or are you just looking to rehome? And what time would you be in Mason City? I'm actually in Algona, but make the trip to Mason City every Tuesday.
Thanks for the links! I have luckily never had to deal with lice or mites in my flock yet (knock on wood). I don't see any skin lesions or nit eggs in the feathers of the chicks, so maybe I am just being paranoid.
Does anyone know if the Sevin dust is safe to use on chicks this young?
