Sled dog breeding

I'm concerned about safety. They have to be stable enough that a 50-60 pound Siberian can hit it at full speed. The size is also an issue, something like those, built right is not going to be easy or cheap. Luckily I know welders so I will find some designs for the bases and supports and have those welders make them. I'm also going to need them to be brown down into a storable size. So those builds wont be easy.

a short distance is about 100 miles. Jr. distance races are 100 miles as well.

the only distance race i can think of kinda of close to Colorado is http://www.rmsdc.com/ (the link has the race info.)
Race to the sky in Montana is another one a lot of people go to.

Hey SternRose, You live kinda close to Colorado, if you still want to mush when your older you could move there.

I'm a member of the RMSDC and have been to quite a few of their races. :) Their fall campout is one of my favorite events. And the Leadville race course is beautiful.

cool. I've wanted to go to some of their races, but i live too far away

Yeah, I completely understand that. It's a 13 hour drive for me from here to Colorado. It gets old after awhile. I usually leave late in the afternoon and drive straight through during the night and arrive in the morning.

If you ever do get a chance to get out that way, I highly recommend the Fall Campout event. It's tons of fun and you get to meet so many awesome people and it's a really great learning experience!

Hey Stern, you asked me which pup my daughter is hugging. That's Phantom at 5 weeks old, the day after I brought him home.

Before anyone blasts us for taking the dog so early. The breeder was hospitalized due to pregnancy problems and spent the next 3 months in the hospital. Her daughter was born premature but is doing well. I was given the option to let Phantom stay under the care of people hired, not by the breeder but by her husband and mother, or bring him home early. I chose to get him, and it's good I did. The people who took care of the dogs while the breeder was hospitalized made a ton of mistakes, including putting all the puppies from 2 different litters in 1 place for easier cleaning. The pups were taken from their mothers, 3 days after I picked Phantom up. I brought milk replacer for Phantom and spoiled him rotten. He is a well adjusted dog. My older dogs helped as well, they socialized and played with him. I don't like taking pups from their mother that early, but I have raised dogs and cats from birth when mom rejected them or abandoned them. I would recommend that people not take pups before 8 weeks of age, and if a situation arises where you have to, get professional help to ensure the dog is well adjusted and socialized. My sister has been a vet tech for years and taught me how to properly care for pups and kittens taken from mom too early.

Here is a kitten I found freezing to death in a tree in my front yard, a week before Thanksgiving. Vets and I estimate she was about 4 weeks old. She was so hypothermic that for 3 days I had to have her tucked under my shirt to help her maintain body heat. She is now a happy kitty. She does still think I am mommy, and she sleeps with me every night.
