Sled dog breeding

Nice to meet you! I have 4 Siberians, one male pup that I'm starting in conformation and hope to make my foundation stud. 2 young b**ches, 1 of whom is driving me crazy with her crap because she is in heat. 1 spayed rescue female that is just such a great dog. I live in Texas, so no sledding for us because of the heat. But I am getting my crew into obedience, agility, and conformation showing. That will be how I evaluate my breeding stock, as well as by getting hip and eye scores done once they reach 2 years of age. I also have a rescued Belgian Malinois who is neutered, and a rescued female rottwieller, spayed who I am trying to find a home for now.

I do conformation showing as well, it's actually a ton of fun. You should like it. If you ever get a chance to go to a Specialty Show, do it! They are usually three day shows and strictly Siberians competing. Lots of fun and you always meet some great folks! I've never done agility, but love watching Sibes do it.

I have a spayed Malinois/German Shepherd mix too that I am doing dock diving with, and I want to get her into Barn Hunt and IPO when I find the time.

Do you breed your dogs?

I do breed on occasion. I've only had two litters, and have kept all the pups except for one who went to my mentor. I have very high standards for my own breeding program, and was taught to only breed a litter if I could not find a dog to buy that was better than what I already had in my kennel. Really looking forward to this upcoming race season though to evaluate a couple of b*tches that I will be interested in breeding in the future though. Also working on getting points towards a Championship on my male leader so I can use him as a stud dog.

does any one else shave their huskies in summer

Shaving a Siberian Husky is a huge No No! Shaving damages the guard coat, which won't grow back properly. Also the guard coat is hollow, allowing for heat exchange, the undercoat is for insulation and warmth. By shaving a Sinerian, you remove the hollow guard coat, preventing heat exchange. Also, Siberians are sensitive to sunburn without the protection of the coat.

Never shave a Sinerian unless it is for medical reasons.

I am hoping to start showing my male pup around his first birthday. But we got started with training late. It took me a while to find a local mentor/trainer I liked. We are working on it though.
My pup is doing awesome at agility, he is fearless! He also does a good weave from the first try. My Belgian is also doing great in agility, but he is more jump oriented. Completely different styles between those 2 boys of mine, lol.

My kids got us started with agility and obedience. After a couple runs I saw a way I could use it to help me evaluate my potential breeding stock. Agility and obedience should be decent tests of physical ability and temperment, and of coarse conformation for their body type. It is simply way to hot to use sledding or similar activities on my dogs. So I had to get creative and think outside the box, lol.

Have you ever had a b**ch in heat turn dog aggressive @Tyrosinase? My b**ch went psychotic this heat. She will be2 in October, so I planned on getting her hips and eyes scored then. But I'm at the point where I have had it with her. My hubby loves and spoils her rotten, but I don't want her for my breeding program. My hubby and I have had fights about it already. Is it normal for Siberians in heat to get like that? Or am I right in thinking temperment issue and being overly spoiled is the problem?
