That's a good idea. Unfortunately my dog is one of their predators!
Poor girls haven't left the coop all day. We coaxed them out for a minute or two to make sure they're ok; they ate a tiny bit then went right back in. They're hiding in the best boxes.
No more free ranging for our girls! I've been letting them out daily while we're at work and it's been all good. But this morning, we witnessed (and intervened in) a really close call with a bald eagle!!! I was looking through the back door as a baldy swooped down at the girls! One ran for the...
Oh okay. I actually bought her from a breeder, not from a hatchery/feed store, but nonetheless, glad it looks like a pullet even if it doesn't have a fluffy butt.
So, I'm wondering if one of my pullets is a cockerel.....at 14-15 weeks, would it be obvious? She's a buff Orpington, so I was expecting her to get big and fluffy, but she seems to be getting taller and thinner....she's much taller than the other two (granted they are different breeds - a...
My coop isn't dirt.....hmm. I guess I'll make a poop hammock to put under the roost bars. The only problem is, they don't sleep on them! They sleep on the bedding. Will they choose the roost bars when they get a bid older? (They are about 14-15 weeks now) or do I need to put them up there to...
Do any of you use a large pen (i.e. No free ranging)? We want to let our girls out into the yard, but not until we fence in a portion of it. So they are in a 10x10 pen during the day. There are only 3 of them. The floor is grass (well, was grass, now mostly dirt and poop). How do you keep it...
Nope, just medicating the water. I read 7 days, and we're on day 5. They're all doing wonderfully. They're really starting to warm up to us too. They were all 3 eating out of my hand this morning and letting me pet them
One of my new girls started showing signs of coccidiosis on Friday. We started Sulmet on Saturday, but then switched to Corid yesterday. She's looking much better this morning! I'm hoping we're moving past it. Anyone know how long to keep putting Corid in their water?
