I raised chickens as a kid for about ten years or so. Definitely my favorite childhood hobby! We had a commercial sized incubator and I would have that sucker full all summer long. Looking back, I think my parents were very understanding of all the chicks and chickens running around!

As I said previously, she isn't acting broody. She doesn't sleep in the nest and she doesn't sit in it 24/7. She'll just go in every day and sit from 30 min up to 2 hours.
My flock started maturing around July/August, and I have some very dedicated layers. It seems like a couple are still not laying yet, but since I've seen posts where someone has a 9 mo old hen who still isn't laying yet, I'm not too worried (they are 7 mo old now).

Yeah, I saw the paver sand at Lowe's, but it started to rack up the cost for an entire run coming in small bag installments. But sounds like I can use that for a good reference for the sand I'm looking for.
