    Welp broiler ?

Thanks for the reply. I'm really leaning toward the Freedom Rangers. My only concern with them is the hatchery is in PA while I'm in KS. Have only ordered from hatchery in Iowa, and that order took two days

Which brand of fed do you use? (poll)

I use a local mill. Had them make a 18% mix that I ferment, Have oyster shell on the side. Had to get 500 lbs minimum bagged. Total was around $100.00

How long for a rooster to become butchering size?

    First BA egg

Found my first egg today. Got my BA's back around the 17th of Sept. That puts them at 20 to 21 weeks old. I have golf balls in 5 of the 9 nest boxes, but found the egg in a box without golf balls. Have been supplementing light with a 60 watt bulb comming on around 4:30 am.

So I have decided to do Black Australorps for meat birds I have a quick Question

Started my first flock back in Sept. I got a stright run of BA from McMurry Hatchery. I processed the roos at 16 - 18 weeks, didn't have any scales but IMO they dressed out around 4 lbs. I'm in eastern KS and it got down to 4 degrees last night. The temp didn't phase them a bit. I kept 2 roos...

    Australorps breed Thread

Here are some pics of my BA flock. They arrived around Sept 18th. I ordered a stright run of 30 from MM Hatchery. They sent 32 one died on the 3rd day(pullet) and I lost one to a hawk on Thanksgiving morning(cockerel). That left me with 14 pullets and 16 cockerels. Processed 14 cockerels the...

Good meat birds on pasture and grain

Had to buy 500 lbs, that was their minimum. It was a 18 % protein wheat, corn, soy bean base with vitimin and minerals added. The total was $110.00 for 10 fifty pound bags. I'm also feeding kitchen scraps that contain meat and vegetable.

Butchered my extra BA cockerels over the last two weekends. I did 4 on 1/5 and 10 on 1/11. That put them at 15 and 16 weeks old. I got a stright run of them from McMurry the middle part of September. Had them on chick starter the first six weeks, then put them on some feed I had mixed at the...
