Hen or roo? 5 week partridge cochin

Here’s “Miss” Marple at 7 weeks. Still has more hen coloring and the comb is colorful but not fully red. I just don’t know!

Hen or roo? 5 week partridge cochin

the comb is actually more orange in person but IDK! I’ve been lucky to not have sexing errors in the past.

Hen or roo? 5 week partridge cochin

I have this partridge cochin who is 5.5 weeks old. She was sexed as female but does have more wattle than I’d expect from a female and tends to stand with a more upright posture. So far I think her coloring is closer to a partridge pullet (based on research) but I’ve never had the breed before...

Bumblefoot treatment - do I still need to wrap foot?

I'll look into that next time! Clearly the method I tried was not the easy way ultimately.

Bumblefoot treatment - do I still need to wrap foot?

The vet gave me antibiotics so we did that and changing every other day. Honestly with bumblefoot it seems like everyone you talk to says a different thing.

Bumblefoot treatment - do I still need to wrap foot?

Totally normal. You can see the swelling a bit on one side of the foot where it’s on the bottom but top is fine.

Bumblefoot treatment - do I still need to wrap foot?

I’ve been treating my hen for bumblefoot for about 6 weeks. The black patch went away a few weeks ago and there hasn’t been anything but blood in the wound for even longer. The problem is, the area is still quite swollen. It feels like normal healthy skin and maybe a bit of scar tissue on the...

    Skinny 9.5 week salmon faverolle

That’s so good to know. Thank you so much! This is the hard thing about having so many varieties—comparison doesn’t always work to your advantage.

    Skinny 9.5 week salmon faverolle

I have a 9.5 week salmon faverolle hen that eats and drinks normally but just doesn’t seem to be gaining weight. She has lots of feathers coming in but underneath it feels like skin and bones. She’s very active and often at the food bowl/happy to take treats. Not sure if it could be age related...

Is my 8 week mottled Cochin a hen or roo?

    I like how you think!

Is my 8 week mottled Cochin a hen or roo?

If it weren’t for how pink her wattles are I wouldn’t worry so much. her comb itself is actually quite yellow though it looks red from the coloring on her head. Can’t seem to show that in photos though it’s clear in person. She was sexed as female before being sent from MPC and she’s the only...

    Hello all!

I got my first chicks in the spring of 2018 - a dominique, olive egger, and frost white legbar. Unfortunately the legbar went to the coop in the sky so I got another batch of chicks this fall to make sure the coop doesn't get too lonely. I knew I'd like having chickens but have been amazed by...

Baby chick very active but not eating

I picked up my chicks yesterday and the little salmon faverolle was by far the most active and adventurous. But she just won't eat or drink. No vision problems but refused to drink from the chick waterer--would dip her beak in but not drink - and I have yet to see her take more than one bite of...
