    Homemade Hatcher

Hey y’all, I’ve got a few different sets of eggs in my inky atm and will be removing them clutch by clutch to let them hatch in a separate one so as to avoid drowning younger eggs and covering them in hatch goo. I don’t usually do this but has postal services meant my shipped eggs arrived days...

Incubator stopped heating halfway through hatch!

I have spent about 200 quid on golden, silver and swinhoe pheasant eggs. My Brinsea Octagon inky has, of course, stopped working a few days into the hatch. The eggs themselves feel lukewarm, but the inky still reads the right temps! My room has got significantly warmer in the past few days...

    Moving a Nest

I’m in the UK and things are very different here RE: birds, mallards especially - it’s actually legal to take wild mallard eggs and incubate them so long as you release them when they’re adult by the 31st of July of the year you take the eggs unless the adults are disabled somehow. I also rehab...

    Moving a Nest

thanks folks that’s a good idea. I have a bator if she jumps off but I’d rather not move her if she’ll be too disturbed. Looks like tomorrow is a diy day lol. Anyone had success moving ducks before?

    Moving a Nest

Hey duck people, I’ve got a wild mallard nesting in my garden. She’s very comfortable with human interaction as she and her flock live at the marina across the way and are regularly fed by people, and she will walk right over my feet if I’m in her way. Problem is I’ve lost two hens (some of my...

Saddle shaped air cells - how best to deal with em?

Hey you lot! I've got 6 guinea eggs in the bator atm (brindsea octagon 20) with the attached humidifier, and an autoturner. Everything was going smoothly, left the eggs for 36 hours to rest, but the first problem was that I was away at my girlfriend's place the day they arrived, and they were...

    Another fox attack, emergency!

Thank you! He's quiet, dark and warm, I've covered the areas with natural citrus fly repellant (yes, it will remove the oils from his feathers but I've used much more of it on ducks before and the feathers recover fine). The way I described the break in wasn't very good, so I'd like to clarify...

    Another fox attack, emergency!

Last night there was so much rain, the ducks' metal run slid slightly apart, so the door was no longer attached through the latch any more. Of course, Mr Fox made the most of it and managed to get in, made off with one of the Muscovy drakes, dragged him about an acre into the paddock before the...

    Injury from Fox Attack(graphic)

Sorry about the wait to reply, I'm doing A levels lol. Somehow, she's recovered completely! I am absolutely amazed, she was certainly on death's door. I want to thank you guys for all your help. Unfortunately that fox got to another duck last night, and I'm just about to start a new thread about...

    Injury from Fox Attack(graphic)

She's looking a lot better today, she walked a good few steps and is drinking a normal amount... and just looking not as ruffled and generally perkier. She's still not eating, when do you think I should intervene with that? This is day three. I've put some sweetcorn, a few small pieces of apple...

Fox attack on duck! Help needed!

Thank you again! I had heard that myself but I was in a hurry and I couldn't think of anything else that would certainly keep the flies off. However I shall do my research to make sure if it's okay to use again. Oh that sounds good then, I'll use the saline in a spray bottle. Ah that is why...

    Injury from Fox Attack(graphic)

Hey, so I've got a post in the emergencies section but I was advised to put one here too, I'd love the help of some fellow duck people. If it's a problem to have more than one thread on the same issue I apologise So one of my lovey Muscovy girls was very lucky to be saved from Mr Fox by my dad...

Fox attack on duck! Help needed!

Thanks so much Amiga. She seems a lot better today and is pushing herself around with the leg that was completely useless yesterday. She had a bite to the pad and it punctured her foot a little but the webbing is fine and it isn't swollen. The wound on her back is sealing up incredibly well...
