    My latest chicken guardian

Ive got a coyote I did, so far its escaped everything except the neighbors dog, he dragged it home and I got it back about a...

chicks4fun2 I dont think you can but when they roost Im thinking any door would be closed but depending how well the coop is constructed would determine if its going to be drafty.

A local taxidermist did it for me. I didn't want to make a mess of this one and he really did a great job. He quoted me 2 months and had it ready exactly as he estimated. Thanks Jamie at Cripple Creek Taxidermy. If you want to see some great mounts check out his web site and his photo album...

I make paths for them to their favorites hangout and where they like to peck around we dont get so much snow that I can just broom it for them and they stay right in the trails. they will go straight to the sunniest locations and I make sure there is no wind blowing it will frost bite them...

    Give up free-ranging?

I lost all of my Cochins to a bobcat over the summer. It was coming closer and closer I could tell because of where I would find the feathers. every 10 days or so another would be taken. At first I didnt know what it was then finally I got lucky and the cat came at the wrong time. My shotgun was...

the chickens will take a liking to him provided they arent ranging with a rooster. If he keeps his distance the rooster will warm up to his presence to. Ive got a Yorkie who like to be out with them but they like to chase her occasionally just for the fun of it. Nothing like a devoted rooster to...

How on earth do I plug up Rat holes in a stone building in the middle of winter?

wad up some wire mesh into a ball and with a rubber mallet hammer it in tight into the hole force as much into and through the hole as you can get in maybe even some mortar mix added to it will plug the hole but a big tight wad of wire mesh will make it impossible for the rats to travel through...

I also use some of my wifes old throw away throw rugs on my shop porch and in a couple of other covered outdoors areas so when they decide to take a rest from peckin and scratchin they have something that keeps them from hunkerin down on the cold ground. I take them up if its going to be wet so...

    Bobcat back from Taxidermist

Last October almost 2 months to the day this guy killed the last chicken he will ever kill. I was losing almost 1 bird every 10 days to 2 weeks and that amounted to 6 of my Coochins hens and the Rooster. I had the birds almost 5 years and this fellow really got my hackles up. He came about 4...

    The neighbors dog

With the economy (oh hell blame it on the economy) as it is many folks with too many dogs just stop feeding them and as bag load them up and drop them off. the only solution i have found that is effective with dogs is a bullet and I dont hesitate with one exception if the dog is not a stray and...

Sometimes you get to even the score

Lots of great dialog and this type of post always stirs the opinion pot beyond a simmer. I also posted these pictures on a gardening site and had to double check there wasnt a lynch mob waiting outside for me. I mean you'd think i had shot the Pope. I think this Bobcat was responsible for...
