I tell you what, I will never go to him again. He saw me coming from a mile away.:thun This being my first time I had no clue what to look for so I just took him for his word. I thought somthing was up when he gave me 5 of them things for $8.00. Turns out they were all roosters, that's why.
Hey...
OMG! Thankyou, I was really hoping that I had some girls. About the barred rocks, at this point i'll keep em. I do think though that I might order a few sexed Buff's from ideal. I can order a handful and they are only one state away so the babies should do ok. Yep, that's what i'll do. Maybe...
I already found out that I have 3 roosters in the bunch (you can see my other post about that,) but now i'm paranoid that the rest are too. I managed to get a few pics of the rest of the flock, they are all 11-12 weeks old.
This is another of one of the barred rocks, if that's what they are...
Yay, we found homes for all of them!! We were offered a few of their babies in the spring if we want, but i'm nervous to get more. The kids were outside this morning getting pictures so that they can remember them and are very upset.
I've lost all my Buff orpington's now. We really have no...
Ok, this morning I found out that Nosey-Rosey is definately a rooster too. So that means that so far we have caught Pecan and Rosey. I still have yet to see Henrietta crow. I don't think it would be a dominance thing, since Henrietta is boss over all.
Ok, as I am typing this, Henrietta started...
Oh no, I never suspected Henrietta. I thought she would have started acting like a rooster if she was one by now. Well, if she's a rooster that doesn't crow then she/he can stay.
What about the others? I kinda think that Penelope may be a girl since she was who George preferred, if you know what...
We have a mixed flock consisting of 2 buff orpington's (had 3), 1 dark cornish bantam mix, 2 barred rocks??, 2 Americauna's, and one silly little guinea.
Ok, here's the deal. We bought 2 buff orpington's when they were 6-7 weeks, 1 buff and the bantam when they were 2 weeks old or so. We got...
I live in S. Louisiana. We have maybe a few days a year where it gets below freezing. My husband and BIL are talking about making some shutters on hinges. I say if we actually have a cold night we just could put up a tarp on the outside with a heat lamp inside. Our big problem here is the heat...
I'll try, my husband is the one that knows exactly what we used.
For the flooring we used 2 pallets from a glass company that were 8ft long. The pieces were 2 x 4's, I think. We bought 5 sheets of 4 x 8 plywood for the floor and walls. For the inside walls we broke apart some pallets from...
HaHa, cheap is what we were going for. I can't justify spending alot now when we won't be using it for long.
We got almost all of the painting done. It's raining though so we won't be able to finish today. I'm also going to hang a planter under the window to make it look a little better. Thanks...
Yea! I just had my first egg hatch at about 6:00 this morning too. It was great. I am still waiting for my other one to hatch also. I have my chick still in the bator drying off. That's what I was told to do, leave them until they are fully dry. Congrats on the hatch!

We also use DE but we still had a few flies so we just bought some Sweet PDZ and we have no more flies! We paid $10.00 for our bag. I don't use it every morning though since I only have 2 birds outside right now. I'm sure when my babies join the bigger girls outside I will need to use it more...
Although we are far from finished it is done enough to let the girls in. We took the design from Garm's coop because we thought it wold be great for our hot area. The coop actually stays very cool inside. It is 4 ft x 8 ft, and 6.5 ft high in the front down to 6 ft in the back.
My husband is a...
The kids are ok today. I have 6, and they range from 13 down to 14 months. My 4 yo called the 2 yo a chicken killer but other than that I haven't heard much. The 2 yo didn't care, he thought it was funny.
You know, I have been so good about keeping the door locked where the incubator is but...
I am so upset right now. We have been trying to incubate our first batch of eggs. I have been having the kids keep a journal on the progress of the development of the eggs. It so far has been a fun experience.
Well, my 2 yo just informed me that he got a baby chicken. I immediately ran in the...
