Well, my career as a "criminal rooster dumper" is thankfully over...spoke w/ the owner of "Rusty" (the rooster) and explained the situation, asking her to please go w/ me to court, to verify that I wasn't dumping the bird.
She is going to be out of town that day, but offered to pay the fine and...
Finally got through to someone "in the know"...I'm going down Monday morning and see if this can get straightened out...worst case scenario, the fine is $117...that's not as expensive as I thought it would be...
Still, it really annoys me to be in this ridiculous position in the 1st place!
What's odd is that the "witness" (on the summons) seems to be an officer of the law...if so, why wasn't I simply arrested at the scene of the (alleged) crime?
Lots I don't know, apparently!
Appreciate the kind words, and hopefully the DA (or whoever makes these decisions) will see things reasonably...otoh, wonder what the penalty is for "abandoning a rooster" and/or (allegedly) "throwing rooster from vehicle"? (This DID NOT happen, he was released from a dog carrier!)
A fine...
Out where I live, many folks allow their birds (chickens, ducks, guineas, etc.) to wander the area, trusting them to return to their roosts at sundown, and (presumably) trusting predators (four-legged, four-wheeled and otherwise) to leave their birds unharmed...me, I keep my birds in a...
Built a new chicken house and set it right next to the other one...hens lay eggs in new one but prefer to sleep in old one. packed like sardines...
Seems odd...
for sale or trade for a hen or two (really interested in Production Reds, but will consider other good egg-layers)...can send pics to interested parties...
Terry
at Bowie, TX's "2nd Monday Trade Days"...they look like these...

Note feathered feet and white plumage
#2
Both of these are actually an even light grey ("blue") on backs/sides but darker grey ("slate") on head/neck...pretty much identical...my cheesy digital camera really doesn't do...

OK...3 of my Ameracaunas lay green, 3 lay olive, 2 lay blue and one lays a pale pink...not real sure about that last one's bloodline, though...she was a foundling.
I've heard it both ways, so I'm asking y'all....do these 3 breeds lay the same color eggs all their lives or can one that lays blue eggs change to olive or green or just how does that all work?
Thanks for any enlightenment shared!
I was told about a bill that, if passed, will require microchips to be implanted into each and every head of livestock, from chickens to hooved stock, and an annual fee...exceptions only being big corporate concerns...
Can anybody tell me the name and/or number of this bill?
Many thanks!
Watched a program about China last night and chickens w/ black meat/bones were discussed, but I didn't catch the name of the breed(s)...anyone know anything?
