So, I tried to process a couple of older layers and totally botched it. Does anyone know of a someone in the area that can process a handful of superannuated layets? I know they are only good for the stewpot at this point, but I would like to get them done before winter.

2 Cuyuga Ducks for sale, one male one female. A neighbor purchased them from Southern States last year, and I've had them since January - he was unable to keep them. We are now moving, and our new place does not have enough room for the ducks as well as our hens...
They're young, healthy, and...

Agreed, but a .22 in hand is better than a .45 in the safe, when the time comes. FWIW, .40 is my favorite round over-all. More stopping power than a 9mm, but less blast/recoil than a .45. Actually, guns are like tools to me.........no one gun fits every situation. For concealed carry...
Our neighbors barn cats have been known to spend the night in our chicken coop...the girls don't seem to mind. When we first got banties, the cats would stalk them, but the discovered that our older hens would in turn stalk the cats...nothing funnier than a cat getting ready to pounce, only to...
FWIW, a .22 is a stupid round for a large dog. Unless it sits still long enough for a shot through the base of the skull, you're just going to make it mad. .38 or 9mm jhp will get the job done, but .45 or .357 are probably better. Pistol rounds are shorter-ranged, too, and it's easier to...
Yeah, both my golden sebright hen (the junior one in the pecking order) and my boss hen, an old Australorp, tend to crow. Usually first thing in the morning. Margaret Hatcher, the Autralorp, is pretty loud, but doesn't sustain it more than a couple minutes. Stella, the banty sebright, will...
My chickens get pretty much whatever leftover starch we have, in moderation - bread, potatoes, rice, barley pilaf, etc. When the weather is a cold as it is, they get hot oatmeal in the morning, tempered with a little milk (or yogurt, if availlible). This is usually prsented with greens -...

Why do dog owners insist that domestic canus canus is descended from wolves (canus lupus)? Canus canus is much more closely related to jackals than wolves...coyotes are also more closely realted to domestic dogs than wolves are.
Not that it really matters all that much - it's very...
My four-year-old gave them a slice of pepperoni pizza that he didn't want. It kept them busy for, oh, five whole minutes or so. They were so intent on getting the last particles of pepperoni grease they dug a hole in the middle of the run.
I have an 18-month old Australorp hen who has stopped laying and started molting (with a vengeance - primary flight feathers everywhere). I noticed today that her comb and wattles are fading to a sort of pinkish-grey. Not in spots or lesions like fowl pox, just a general fading of color. Her...
I'm glad to find a Maryland thread, and to see that there are folks fairly local...I'm in southern Fredercick County, not far from Urbana. I've got a pair of Australorps, one of who is molting and not laying, and three EE's who haven't started laying yet, despite being threatened with freezer...
