Best chance for a broody hen

My sussex always went broody, She was a good mom also. I also had an Orpington that occasionally went broody, but not as frequent as my sussex. I'm not quite sure if it was the breed or just the personality of the chicken.

    Picking the right rooster?

I can't answer your question about the meat characteristics of your rooster as I too use my chickens for egg production. I pick my rooster for their personality and how well they treat and care for the hens. I want to be able to walk amongst my chickens as opposed of worrying where that rooster...

    They're CROWING!!!!!!

I have 5 others who haven't uttered a sound...6 months is usually the norm. I think my other two had a shot of testosterone...or what ever the chicken equivalent to that is.

    They're CROWING!!!!!!

I had 2 that crowed at 2 wks old and continued to crow every morning. They are now 12 wks old and we now have a third one crowing. The 2 initial ones were silkie/Cochin mix. My third one is a barnvelder. It's so funny watching them crow when they are so little.

    The Sussex thread!

Is it always just the comb or does the feathering play a part in it also? I have three all born 4 wks ago...3 just about fully feathered and one which has the same feathering as above. The all have the same personalities and are very friendly.

    hatching Eggs After Valbazen Treatment

NoT sure about incubating them, but I know it takes a total of 25 days where you cannot eat the eggs. First treatment, wait 10 days, treat again and wait about 15 days before you can eat the eggs. Maybe someone else can chime in on incubating eggs.

    Who has a kindle?

Love my kindle, easy to travel with. I can read in the sun and there is no glare. I can keep track of what page I am on. I can switch between books and never lose my page.
