Preparing for hatching with a broody hen

I only have 1 other hen with access and the nesting box is spacious enough for 2 hens to lay comfortably inside without interfering with each other. The other hen lays her eggs on one side and the broody barely leave her clutch. My coop is the Omlet Eglu Cube and I only have the 2 at the moment...

For Experienced Broody Hatchers!!! I have a Question or two

Ive decided to let a broody hatch some fertilized eggs. This is my first ever hatch(never hatched with incubator or hen before) Ive taken a "let nature take its course" approach to giving eggs to the broody hen. I have not candled her eggs or interfered in any way. Ive made sure she comes out...

Preparing for hatching with a broody hen

♡ This. We literally gave our broody some eggs and let her be. I do have a question for you though. Will the broody get rid of quitters and non fertile eggs? When I checked on my broody today, there was a cracked open eggshell near her breast. Did she accidently crush it and eat it? Ive taken a...

    Ugly chicken coops matter too!

Mine is also "ugly" literally spent nothing to build it aside from actual hardware for the doors and the hardware cloth. Old wood from under the deck, tin roofing found in a shed from previous tenants...

    Sand versus Pine shavings

Sand is amazing for the run. I currently use sand in the chickens run. Hay in the nesting box and coop. Duck coop has hay exclusively right now because i used all the wood shavings in their brooder.

I am loosing my mind to the fencing around the chicken run!

Fencing is rather expensive. no way around it. we are looking into Electric Flexi fencing seen on Gold Shaw Farms youtube channel. we bought a 50x50 roll of hardware cloth and it was $90CDN and it was just enough to make their coop and run we built predator proof. We have an Omlet Eglu Cube for...

    HELP....Egg bound?!

Long story short....purchased 3 hens from a person selling 1yr old hens. I bought 3. Ive had them for 6 days and I think something is majorly wrong with one or all of the hens. All of them had a BAD case of scaly leg. I treated with vaseline. No eggs from Day 1 from all hens. 3 days...
