    Grinding my own feed

Thanks for the ratios sumi. I am gonna see what prices I can get them at. And Chris09, I have looked online and called around and the nearest feed mill is 4 hours away, which would slash any savings I could gain. Being on the agricultural side of the state I am perplexed why I can't find one...

    Grinding my own feed

I haven't noticed a lot of waste. I throw scratch on occasion in the coop to encourage cleanup. Maybe we have big eaters? I didn't realize that this was excessive. But if yours make a 50# bag last 3.5 days and have more chickens something must be wrong...

Trying to figure it out through all the other threads is more than this momma of 4 kiddos 5yrs. and under can handle...

Turkey has bottom pecked so badly that there is a gaping bloody hole. Please help!

So I have a bronze turkey who is the only one in my flock of 40 chickens. ( i learned my lesson and will get more than 1 next time). well, it is a tom and he is constantly flaring out and trying to woo the wild turkeys that hang out by our creek. When he flares out the other chickens all peck...

    Need dog advice.

Thank you all for the help! We are planning on fencing the whole 3.5 acres with the no climb horse fencing. And I should state. We talked to the offending dog's owner and he was completely understanding and offered to compensate and said that he would start tying up his dog more. He was...

    Need dog advice.

We had a neighbors bird dog take out a few chickens a little while back while they were free ranging (on our property) and am a bit upset over it. My husband and I decided that we need to get a dog that will be a god protector of the chickens. We have 4 young children under 5yrs. old and we need...

Sponsored Post Congratulations MamaNini! You won a beautiful coop from Handcrafted Coops!

So I am relatively new to chicken raising as I am starting my second year, my advise is to use backyardchickens.com for anything and everything and don't be afraid to ask questions. It is overwhelming at first and if you are like me, I am sure your lack of confidence far outweighs your knowledge...

White Crested Black Polish getting plucked, advise please

Thanks for the link. That helps a lot. I will set out to find some stuff to put on her and tie up her hair. I hope it helps. I don't know how you are all so good at finding these threads. I get lost after a while of looking. Thanks again. Here's hoping Lady Gaga merges in well!

White Crested Black Polish getting plucked, advise please

I know there are a lot of topics, but I can't seem to find an answer to my question... I have a crested Polish who at first I thought was getting plucked by the others, of all ages. She is 5 weeks old and cooped with other breeds ranging in age from 3-5 weeks. I have noticed that many of the...

2 week olds and 1 weeks olds

I am new to chickens this year and have ages spread out over 3 1/2 weeks and I have just kept the babies by themselves for the first 4-7 days then introduced them to the older ones and it seems to have worked out. It seems to stir up the pecking order a little, but not that much. the older ones...
